The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation has been building reefs off the Jupiter coastline for several years. The Foundation was created to honor the memory of Andrew Harris who was struck by a boat while snorkeling in the Jupiter Inlet on June 8, 2014. The foundation’s work will help assure the long-term health and vibrancy of the local marine environment where Andrew loved to dive and fish.

The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation began a significant education initiative in 2018. The goal was to donate a 5-book set of the “Professor Clark the Science Shark” series to every third-grade classroom in Florida, 55,000 books in all!  As you can imagine that goal has been met and enthusiastically received!!

Young Friends of Jupiter Beach is back and actively serving the Jupiter community.  On the 3rd Sunday of the month, from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM, local are students gather at Ocean Cay Park for Students from local and neighboring high schools are invited to join the group for a beach cleanup. These students are earning volunteer hours for school as well as helping keep Jupiter beaches clean.

These budding, philanthropic environmentalists are becoming the next generation of emerging environmental stewards, preserving Jupiter’s beaches, habitat, and marine life for future generations. The Abacoa Green Market, organized and started by restauranteur Ryan Witkowski, owner of Stadium Grill, kicked off at the beginning of October.  The Abacoa Green Market is held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The green market is every Wednesday at the Abacoa Amphitheatre in Jupiter.  

The next market is November 10, 2021. It features fresh produce, seafood, artisan cheeses, baked goods, arts and crafts, photography, and more. Find the green market at 1260 University Boulevard, Abacoa Amphitheater, in Jupiter.  Live music by Balatovis, specialty vendors, locally handmade artisanal goods, curated art, and more!

Many residents of Palm Beach County are unaware that Jupiter, Florida was the site of three distinct wars. Native Americans occupied this territory and are honored to this day.  Many names of our towns are named in honor of the indigenous people who once lived here.  Names such as Tequesta and Miami are names of Native American tribes that once lived here. The Loxahatchee River was not originally named "Loxahatchee".  It is an Anglicized version of the river's earliest Seminole name, "Locha-hatchee" meaning turtle river.  The Seminoles occupied much of Florida.  After the American Revolution, Spain regained control of Florida from Britain. The Seminoles set up farms and acquired land grants from the Spanish.
