The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, here in Jupiter, is the highlighted lighthouse on every new “Visit Our Lights” specialty license plate sold by Florida’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. There are thirty lighthouses still standing proud in Florida. There is a $25 annual special fee for the plates, in addition to registration fees. Proceeds benefit the Florida Lighthouse Association, a nonprofit that supports the preservation of the state’s lighthouses. The new plate with the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse will be available for the next 10 years. The original version of the specialty plate has been available for purchase since 2008. It illustrated the striped St. Augustine Lighthouse.

Volunteer organizations, individuals around Palm Beach County and the globe have been working with the ocean conservancy. Hoping to end the flow of trash at the source ending the flow of trash at the source. It is working to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges creating evidence-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it.

The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) unites people to remove trash from the world’s beaches and waterways. Thanks to volunteers around the world, the ICC has become a guiding light of hope, leading, and encouraging action in support of the ocean.

The Friends of Jupiter Beach's September beach cleanup is slated for this Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Ocean Cay Park in Jupiter. It happens to fall on International Coastal Cleanup Day. All volunteers will receive a FREE International Beach Cleanup Day t-shirt!  The first 100 volunteers to sign in will receive a $5 gift card to Surf Taco! The beach cleanup helps to keep trash away from the local wildlife while also helping to maintain the beaches for generations to come. South Florida is a diving magnet with luscious reefs with natural and fabricated beauty under the surface. Did you happen to know that over the past 20 years, Broward County’s Artificial Reef Program has situated over seventy-five synthetic reefs on the ocean floor? One mile off the coast of Deerfield Beach is a reef known as Rapa Nui Reef. It weighs about three hundred tons and is half the length of a football field. The Rapa Nui Reef distinguishes the city in the way 887 similar monuments did Easter Island in the remote South Pacific.

The reef is the combination of a public art project of the “Moai” figures that were created in Stuart along with fabricated reef materials. The reef is called Rapa Nui, the Polynesian translation of “Easter Island.”…
