Going to the gym to workout my not sound too ideal right now, but you can still work out at home. You can do squats, push ups, planks or leg lifts. But most importantly, don't forget about cardio. While BallenIsles, along with other clubs in the area, is shut down at the moment from a Country Club perspective, they are making the most of the free time they now have on their hands.

On Monday, many of the staff at the club took a trip over to the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center to deliver 300 meals to those on the front lines in the medical world. Several COVID-19 testing centers are up and running in South Florida, with more expected to open in the coming weeks. Most of the centers are drive-thru only, which means you need to be in a car or truck with a working window.

Each of the centers also has criteria for testing eligibility and different sets of hours. The most common symptoms are fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases an infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, and even death. The period within which the symptoms would appear is 2-14 days.

Researchers at the Scripps Institute in Jupiter say some of their latest research may have promising implications for an effective coronavirus vaccine.

The findings are still preliminary and have yet to be published, but one member of the research team is expected to update the public on the project and similar efforts during a webinar Scripps will host Wednesday at 4 p.m.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Michael Farzan, a professor who co-chairs Scripps’s Department of Immunology and Microbiology and who is among the scientists working on various coronavirus-related projects at Scripps Florida, is expected to address the research during Wednesday’s web lecture.

Publix supermarket, which has been doing a great job for the residence of the Palm Beaches, has designated special reserved shopping hours for both first responders and seniors.

First Responders Hours

Publix is designating Thursday evenings, 8 – 9 p.m., and Friday mornings, 7 – 8 a.m., as special shopping hours for first responders and hospital staff. This change will continue until further notice. Publix Pharmacy will also be open during these times.

Two local Zoo’s and Safari’s in Palm Beach County are currently closed to the public due to COVID-19 but are active on their websites and social media pages by posting pictures and videos of the animals for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own home.  

The Lion Country Safari, located in western Palm Beach County is known as Florida’s largest walk through and drive through Safari and has won numerous awards and recognitions for being one of Palm Beach County’s Top Attractions.  The safari is home to over 900 animals that roam freely among the 600 plus acres and is said to be the first cage-less zoo in the United States. A teacher in Jupiter has started an online art class to help kids and parents while they are at home because of the coronavirus.

Kate Lindquist started the YouTube classes last week and said she wanted to give families a little fun mixed into their day.

WPTV reports that Lindquist said, “(I did it) just to know there is a highlight in people's days, especially when we are not sure what the next day will bring,” said Lindquist.

The classes are called "Art Day with Miss Kate," and they have step-by-step directions on how to draw something. This week was sweet treats.
