The eighth annual Golf for Wildlife golf tournament will be held at The Fox Club in Palm City on Friday, May 24. The event, hosted by the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center is among the most exclusive tournaments in the area.

The tournament will be hosted by long time supporter Glen Hess and the Vicki Hess Foundation and will benefit the wildlife center's misson to rehabilitate and return sick and injured wild animals to their natural environment.

When Stacy Lewis returns to New Jersey later this month for the LPGA ShopRite Classic, she will be returning as more than just the defending champion. She will be coming back as a hero.

The number 2 women's golfer in the world and Palm Beach Gardens resident donated $20,000 in November as a result of the destruction from Superstorm Sandy. Lewis remembers seeing all the destruction on TV from Japan where she was competing in a tournament.

The Palm Beach Gardens golf course will be closing on June 1 in order for renovations of the course to be completed.

golf2-1_282_05The par 72 course, located west of the Beeline Highway near Ibis, is scheduled to undergo $2.5 million in renovations. New drainage, irrigation, and planting of new grass is planned on the 6,500 yard course.

Located in the heart of the Loxahatchee Nature Preserve, Palm Beach Gardens golf course winds through nature preserves and wetland areas. It is one of the only golf courses in Florida that combines Florida wildlife with a challenging day of golf.

On Friday, some of the top local golfers converged upon the East Course at Admirals Cove to try and begin the qualifying process for next month's U.S. Open.

Open to amateurs and professionals with a 1.4 handicap or lower, 84 golfers from around the state and around the world entered the qualifying event. Out of those 84 golfers, five golfers advanced out of the local qualifier and will move on to sectional qualifying the first week of June.

With the calendar turning from April to May, it is time for golfers from around the country to try and qualify for the U.S. Open in June. Admirals Cove will host the first in what will be a series of month long qualifiers at different locations around the country on Friday, May 3rd, and the Golf Channel will be live from Admirals Cove throughout the morning.

For the 12th consecutive year, hall of fame third baseman Mike Schmidt will be holding his annual fishing tournament at Old Bahama Bay to benefit cystic fibrosis.

In the month of May, the USGA will hold its annual US Open golf qualifiers all over the country. This year, Admirals Cove has been chosen to host the Palm Beach County area qualifying event on its East Course.

The qualifying tournament will be an 18-hole event and will take place on May 3rd and will feature some of the top amateur and local pro and semi-pro golfers that have not already qualified for the tournament. In order to be eligible to compete in a USGA US Open qualifier a golfer must either be a professional or have a handicap of 1.4 or lower.

Those players that are successful at the local qualifiers will advance to a sectional qualifying event. The sectional qualifiers will be a 36-hole event that will be held at 11 sites that are to be…

Going into this past weekend, Team USA was undefeated when a Fed Cup Qualifier was held in the state of Florida, including 2-0 in Delray Beach. After this weekend, the perfect record stayed intact.  

tennis_300The United States defeated Sweden 3-2 at the Delray Beach Tennis Center to earn a spot in the 2014 Fed Cup World Group. Palm Beach Gardens residents Venus and Serena William lead the way with two of the three wins for the U.S. side.

Serena, the world’s number one player, defeated Sofia Arvidsson 6-2 and 6-1 on Sunday, giving the American side a 2-1 lead. That win set up the opportunity for Venus to clinch the victory for Team USA. Venus defeated Johanna Larsson 6-3 and 7-5 to take a 3-1 lead and ultimately advance Team USA to the Fed Cup World Group.
