The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach offers a unique program that allows the public to adopt a sea turtle. The adoption program helps benefit the continuous care and treatment for the endangered, sick, and injured sea turtles housed at the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is located in the Town of Juno Beach and is a non-profit whose mission is aimed to protect the ocean and all that live in it. The center and its staff help to provide treatment and rehabilitation to sea turtles before being released back into the ocean.

Every Sunday during the month of December, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is hosting their reoccurring Hammock Hike. The Hammock Hike consists of an entirely outdoor excursion into the coastal hammock habitat near the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center.

The program will cover and discuss the importance of these coastal ecosystems, explain and identify plants and animals, and the hike will end with an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean. The hike is led by on of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s experienced biologists.

All ages are welcomed to attend the Hammock Hike. The event is an outdoor walking excursion and lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Every Thursday morning throughout the month of December, The Loggerhead Marinelife Center hosts a weekly ArtSea Kids Paint Class. The program is hosted outdoors at the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center.

Sign the kids up for this Thursday, December 10th class. Participants will be able to participate in a story time with an ocean conservation theme and will be able to paint their own ceramic ocean friend that they will be able to take home with them at the end of the program.

The ArtSea Kids Painting Class is recommended for children ages three to eight and costs $10 dollars per painter. The program is hosted outdoors under a canopy, so come dressed for the weather.

The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter is hosting their second annual Wine in the Wild event. This year, the event will be virtual, and wine and charcuterie will be delivered right to your door.

The virtual event will feature a silent auction, special guests, and animal encounters this Saturday night. The silent auction went live on November 28th and online auction registration information will be emailed to you as soon as you purchase tickets for the event.

The Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society has partnered together with Florida Power and Light Company to present Zoo Lights this holiday season.

Zoo Lights has quickly became a South Florida holiday tradition for families and friends. After hours, while the animals are sleeping, the Palm Beach Zoo will be illuminated for the holiday season. The zoo will be decorated with over 1 million eco-friendly lights every night.

Zoo Lights will be aglow from 6 pm to 9 pm with unique lights and theme displays from the entrance through the Florida Wetlands, Tropics of Americas and new to this year, Asia. Santa will be stopping by this year through December 23rd for your photo opportunity. Zoo Lights will feature special animal encounters and special treats.

On Saturday mornings throughout the year, The Loggerhead Marinelife Center hosts a Self-Guided Beach Cleanup. Every weekend, volunteers head to the beach to participate in helping to keep our local beaches and ocean clean from debris and trash.

The Self-Guided Beach Cleanup is a new program this year that has been added weekly to their event calendar. Those who wish to participate are asked to stop by the Marine Debris Sorting Station on the back deck of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to pick up your beach cleanup supplies. Once supplies picked up, volunteers can make their way down to the beach to begin. When finished, simply bring your trash bag back to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center and pick up a free t-shirt as a Thank You for helping gift.

A new artificial reef program has started off the coast of Palm Beach. This past Monday, November 16th, 55 artificial reefs were deployed off the coast as part of the new project called 1,000 Mermaids that works with the Ocean Rescue Alliance. 

The new project is an artificial reef project that creates reef module to make more habitat on the bottom of the ocean for marine life. The artificial reefs arrived to the Port of Palm Beach on Friday of last week and the reefs were received and picked up to start the project. The non-profit, Ocean Rescue Alliance says that reef builders, and donations helped to make these artificial reef structures possible.

Attention dog owners!  Mounts Botanical Garden, 531 North Military Trail in West Palm Beach is turning its annual Dogs’ Day in the Garden into a monthly event, beginning Sunday, December 13, 2020. Bring your four- legged family member for a delightful garden stroll on the second Sunday each month, 9 am-3 pm.  

You will find some great spots around the garden for fun photos with your fur baby! If you post pictures, please use #MountsBotanicalGarden and Mounts will share your photos.
