If you have been to the beach lately, you've probably seen the incredible amount of seaweed washed up on our coastline. South Florida is currently experiencing substantial amounts of seaweed beaching up on the coastline. Due to this influx of seaweed, Palm Beach County has taken the initiative to protect turtle season and keep locals happy.

On the north end of the county, researchers at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Juno Beach, are keeping an eye on it, making sure it doesn’t negatively impact nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings. The influx of seaweed is called sargassum and occurs naturally. The 5th Annual Wounded Veterans Relief Fund 5k Run/Walk honors those who are serving and those who have served the United States. This 5k raises funds to help Florida veterans who find themselves on the verge of homelessness. The Wounded Veterans Relief Fund provides veterans with housing and transportation assistance, activities, and resources to help them find their new "normal". Their mission is to save lives and keep families together. 

Not only is this 5k for a great cause, but it winds through our beloved scenic Riverbend Park, along the Loxahatchee River, and through Battefield Park. T-shirts and finisher medals are guaranteed for the first 400 registrants.
