The River Center provides a fun educational opportunity for visitors to learn about the unique Loxahatchee River system, from freshwater Cyprus swamp to the seagrass dominated estuary and marine ecosystems.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to capture the flora and fauna of the unique Florida outdoors, the Loxahatchee River Center is holding an open amateur photo contest until Tuesday, October 16th.

The competition is comprised of two age categories; Youth (17 & under) or General Amateur (18 & up), and will award winners in three content categories; flora, fauna, and human interaction.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category, and winning photographs will be displayed at the River Center and on their website.

On Thursday, September 20th, the Loxahatchee River Center will be holding a home school workshop entitled “Shark Senses and Habitat” from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

This drop off only program will include a hands-on activity about sharks, and is geared towards children ages 5-11. Registration is required to attend, and cost is $3 per child.

September is National Hunger Action Month, and the Palm Beach County Food Bank is hosting "A Magical Night to Fight Hunger" to raise money and awareness for hungry local families. 

The evening includes a 3-course dinner with an appetizer, main dish and dessert provided by downtown restaurants including Yard House and Avocado Grill. There will be a strolling magician and other special surprises for guests. 

The PBC Food Bank collects and gives food to local soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters. On September 23rd, Eau Palm Beach Resort will be hosting the third annual Burger & Beer Bash to fundraise for Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

Not only will a portion of proceeds benefit efforts to save the sea turtles, but event-goers will have the pleasure of participating as “judges” of burger-and-beer pairings. The Palm Beach County March for Hunger fundraiser will be held this Saturday, September 15th from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Catherine Strong Splash Park in Delray Beach.
