The Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society is a non-profit organization and one of Florida’s top-rated zoological organizations. The zoo is located in Dreher Park in West Palm Beach and has over 550 animals and over 190 different species. Many of the animals housed at the zoo are endangered and roam within the 23 acres of tropical habit.

The zoo would not be what it is today without the help and determination of Paul Dreher who moved to South Florida from Germany. Dreher moved to the area and got a job working for the City of West Palm Beach and he later went on to purchase the land which is now Dreher Park from the city in the 1950s. Dreher opened the zoo in the 1960s.

Today, the Palm Beach Zoo is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and is only closed on…

Divers and Snorkelers will now have a new artificial reef to explore in Palm Beach County off the shores of Boca Raton. The county dropped Boca’s third artificial reef last week made of 530 tons of limestone just near the Boca Raton Inlet.

The reef was funded by the Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission grant. The structure sits at about 35 feet deep and is manmade. The reef is meant to create a new habitat for Marinelife coming from the intracoastal waterways to the shores of Boca Raton. The reefs are meant to enhance the habitat for reef organisms while attracting fish and other organisms that live in the ocean.

The county started placing these manmade reefs off the shores of Red Reef Park in 1988. Since then, the park has been named a…

The annual Treasure Coast Bonito Blast Fishing Tournament is a super fun, affordable tournament that has grown tremendously since its inauguration six years ago. The goal is to catch the biggest Bonito, and to raise money for the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund. (For those who don't know, Bonito are a medium-sized relative of the Tuna and Mackerel, flourishing in southeast Florida saltwaters). Last year, 177 boats participated in the tournament and raised $80,000 for the charity. On Saturday, August 18th, anglers have the chance to do it again.

The tournament is paying out a nice chunk of change for the biggest Bonito catch: $1,500 for 1st, $750 for 2nd, and $250 for 3rd place. There's also junior angler awards and a calcutta for largest…
