This time of year is sea turtle nesting season in Florida. The majestic sea turtles make their way out of the ocean and onto shore to lay their eggs. During the summer months, Jupiter becomes a safe haven for nesting turtles that have been coming to lay their eggs on these beaches for hundreds of years.

The town makes a great effort to change all of the beach road lighting to an ambient red color that will not disturb the turtles and prevent them from coming ashore to nest. The traffic lights get a special filter that makes the light only noticeable to cars driving along the road and the correct angle and of course there are strict rules observers must follow when it comes to watching the turtles nest. You may come to the beach to watch the turtles…

World Turtle Day was founded in 2000 and is sponsored by American Tortoise Rescue (ATR). It was started to increase respect and knowledge for the world’s oldest creature. These animals have been around for more than 200 million years but are disappearing quickly due to their loss of habitat and pet trade. The day was created to increase knowledge and respect for the turtles and tortoises, and to encourage human action to help them survive, thrive and to ensure that they are protected.

Turtles face a variety of threats in their everyday lives. Many turtle species are decreasing in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching for food and the exotic pet trade. There are a lot of reasons as to why the turtles need our help. Every year hundreds of…

DETAILS OF THE NEW PLANS

The plans for the new park call for adding two-dozen parking spaces large enough to fit a vehicle and boat trailer and to reduce the number of spaces for vehicles without trailers.…
