The Ocean Course at The Breakers is a few steps closer to being completely renovated. Originally designed by Alexander Findlay in 1897, this lush Palm Beach golf course was redesigned by Brian Silva in 2000, and they’ve now enlisted renowned golf architect Rees Jones to complete its latest nip and tuck.

Renovations began this spring, and this past Friday the new greens received their first watering.

Once renovations are complete, the course will have fresh salt-tolerant turf and its previous tifEagle Bermuda greens, as well as an updated reverse-osmosis irrigation system. Further contributing to water conservation, the on-site well converts undrinkable water into 500,000 gallons of irrigation water per day.

Just days short of her 16th birthday, a Jupiter area caring young lady named Zoe Loren passed away. Her family and friends knew they lost someone very special.  The bright and generous teen had touched so many lives. To keep her memory and spirit alive the Zoe Loren ‘Make a Difference’ Foundation was established.  

The Zoe Loren Make a Difference Foundation keeps her essence alive through the good works of the foundation. Proceeds from years of 5K fun runs in Jupiter have been able to award scholarships and contribute funds to causes Zoe was zealous about.

The natural language of around 500,000 deaf people in the US and Canada is American Sign Language (ASL). Loggerhead Marinelife Center has decided to make things easier for their wide range of visitors by offering ASL tours in addition to their regularly scheduled daily tours.

ASL-guided tours are now available upon request and led by a fluent guide ready to share exciting educational information about their incredible sea turtle research and rehabilitation efforts. Tours usually last for an hour and are $10 a person with a five-person or $50 minimum.

The Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation (ERAF) invites you to join the 3rd Annual Country Festival presented by Infiniti Stuart.

The festival will feature fun for the whole family including pony rides, barn tours, trick-or-treating, live music by the Samantha Russel Band, a dance demonstration by the Cactus Moon Dance Club, and food made by the Martin County Sherriff’s Office Grill Team. Food is courtesy of Corner Café Tequesta, and beer is provided by Hop Life Brewing Company.

Entry is $3 a person, and all proceeds benefit the rescue horses of Equine Rescue & Adoption Foundation.

The festival will take place on Sunday, October 21st 12-4pm at 6400 SW Martin Hwy in Palm City, Florida.

Tommy Morrissey is a 7-year-old, one-armed golfer from Palm Beach Gardens who is in the running for a global sports award. 

Dubbed the “swinging wonder,” Morrissey is one of four candidates up for the Laureus World Sports Award for “Best Sporting Moment.” If he wins, he will be invited to the 2019 awards show in Monaco.

Morrisey has no right arm below the elbow and not only does he play golf, he's one of the best in his age group. He also raises money for his charity "UnLIMBited Foundation" by getting involved in events like The Honda Classic where he hosts a One Arm Challenge. During the mid 17th century, legend has it that pirates found refuge 450 miles off the port of Palm Beach on the Bahamian island of Mayaguana. After long ocean voyages, they dug a well in the middle of the island in search of drinkable water, and would fill their casks before setting sail once again.

Fast forward to present day, and Pirate’s Well in Lake Park toasts to this sentiment as a friendly refuge for Northern Palm Beach locals to quench their thirst after leisurely days on the water with family and friends. Offshore, football-sized blackfin tuna have been pretty easy to get ahold of in about 200-400’ of water. You can use small daisy chains or troll with feathers, but quite a few have been caught trolling with small-skirted bonita strips as well. We had a lot of success with neon green and white skirts this week, but colors are a game that changes by the minute, so try a few different ones and switch the rest out as you go if your target fish is tending to a particular color. Dolphin have been in the same areas as blackfin, and wahoo have been non-existent. On the first cold front that rolls through, we’ll have our local favorite Junkanoo Lures ready. On November 10th, Westchester Country Club in Boynton Beach will be hosting the 9th Annual Golf “Fore” Paws to benefit the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue.

The rescue’s mission is to reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats from becoming victims to shelter euthanasia, while educating the public on the importance of adoption and spay and neuter in the community. Every animal rescued is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, tested, provided medical care, and placed in a foster home.

To date, the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue has saved more than 8,000 dogs and cats from being euthanized, has performed over 1,200 surgeries, plus over 6,000 spays and neuters.

This past weekend, Bluewater Babes Fish for A Cure celebrated their 10th Anniversary with a bang- literally! The usual festivities at Sailfish Marina were not only over the top, but the series of events culminated with a grand fireworks show over Peanut Island.   When it comes to fishing, SPICED RUM's Sherry Beswick took first place Kingfish with 42.7 lbs, Stacy Maderal of LUNATICO took second with 20.5 lbs, and Gwen Belcher of PRETTY WORK won third with 19.3 lbs.
