Lent is the season of fasting and prayer observed by most Christian denominations in the forty days leading up to Easter. A time for carefree celebration, Mardi Gras traditionally served to balance out the solemnity of the days that follow. To prepare for Lent, religious people emptied their pantries of indulgences like eggs, lard, and sugar. Carmine’s Gourmet Market opened the flagship market in 1988 as an epicurean marketplace opened in Palm Beach Gardens. The Gourmet Market grew with new offerings such as fresh meats and seafood, deli items, and authentic Italian brick-oven pizza. People drove for miles to see the new unique market.
