Sea Turtle Nesting Season begins this week, and the experts at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach are hoping to have another record-breaking season.

The nesting season last 8 months, starting this Thursday, March 1st until October 31st. Last year was the best year to date since the Loggerhead Marinelife Center began several years ago, and the center is hoping for an even better year this season. 

Along the sandy coastline in north Palm Beach County, thousands of sea turtles lie eggs in the sand. The nests usually contain about 100 eggs each that requires 45 to 60 days before they start hatching. Making this area one of the most populated sea turtle nesting locations in the world.

According to recent reports, Palm Beach County is one of Florida’s fastest growing metropolitan areas. Palm Beach County’s population growth has risen 2.8 % percent, coming in behind Orlando and Fort Myers.

The most recent population estimate done in 2016 by the U.S. Census Bureau said the area was home to 1.44 million people. Every week the Downtown at the Gardens hosts its weekly Friday night Concert in the Court in Palm Beach Gardens.

Taking place March 10th is the 17th Annual Barry Crown Walk for the Animals in honor of Peggy Adams Animal Rescue. You and your family and friends can join Team Salty Dog Paddle in a fun walk along a scenic route. This year the walk is at a brand new location, City Place.

Ballet Palm Beach is presenting an original ballet based off the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Set in the roaring twenties, a heartbreaking story is told by Jay Gatsby's neighbor Nick Carraway. Carraway is one of the few who gets to know Gatsby while everyone else only knows little about him other than that he is rich and mysterious. Carraway sees beyond the luxury dream life of Gatsby and finds a very sad man who is madly in love with Daisy, a woman taken by someone else.

The Okeechobee Music and Art Festival is an annual 4-day event that takes place on an 800-acre property called Sunshine Grove in Okeechobee, Florida, located within an hour drive from Palm Beach County.

The first festival was held in March of 2016. The first year the festival drew over 32,000 visitors over the four days to see big artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Mumford & Sons.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is hosting its third annual Sea Fest For Kids. The event is Saturday, February 24th from 11 am to 5 pm at the lighthouse in Jupiter.

The family friendly event will feature sea-inspired adventures and educational activities for the kids to celebrate Jupiter’s coastal history and heritage. Important characters from Jupiter’s past, mermaids, and real pirates will be there too to celebrate on the waterfront. There will also be a pirate and mermaid costume contest. The Ah-tah-thi-ki Museum will be present to provide educational and fun crafts.

Starting this weekend in Delray Beach some of the top tennis professional will be in town for the 2018 Delray Beach Open. The Open starts today February 16th through February 25th. The 10-day tournament features past and present ATP World Tour and ATP Champions Tours players.

The tennis matches consist of competitions featuring some of the top-ranked tennis professionals in the world for single- elimination and double events at the Delray Beach Tennis Center.
