Fishing Report 7.25.14

OFFSHORE- Fishing in general has been spotty offshore. Dolphins are scattered around; but exactly where, is anybody’s guess right now! As usual, look for working birds, rips, weed lines, or floating debris to find dolphin.

“The Ledge” which is located east of Juno Pier at 130’ depth, is full of fish right now such as Bonita, sharks, and blue runners, which are around in big numbers from Jupiter to Broward Inlets in 100-150' of water. Along with the hot edge fishing there have big Mutton that hang under schooling fish like Kings that wait for scraps to fall down to the sea floor. So, fire down a fresh bonito strip on a long leader and you should not have to wait long before your reeling something up. Mixed in the crowd will be some…

Feel a case coming on? It's called bug fever and it strikes every July on the coastal areas of Florida and are flooded with Lobster Hunters trying to get their share of this year’s bounty during mini lobster-season. Mini lobster season always falls on the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July. This year it falls on July 30th and July 31st beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday and ends at 12 a.m. (midnight) on Thursday. There is also a regular eight-month lobster season is always August 6 through March 31.

In the clench of bug fever, divers who are normally at ease to breathe deep, swim slow and look at magnificent fish, suddenly desire the competitive adventure of the hunt and the sweet taste of victory — grilled or boiled, and served with butter.

The most important thing when sight fishing to any species of fish is to be able to see the fish clearly. The most treasured piece of gear in your fishing arsenal is a quality pair of polarized sunglasses.

Glare, bottom color, surface texture, wind and fish’s uncanny ability to disguise itself make sight fishing the most challenging. Selecting the accurate polarized sunglasses can be the difference between seeing and catching fish. Good sunglasses are a must no matter what species you are looking for. Bedding bass,…
