The game offshore this weekend goes to sailfish, snappers, and gaffers. Sailfish are strong just in time for the Dust ‘Em Off Tournament, with releases in the double digits off of Palm Beach. Kite fishing with live goggle-eyes or blue runners in 100-300’ should entice a few sails. While dolphin schoolies are abundant, a few gaffers have been chasing ballyhoo and bonita strips in the 150-600’ range. Trolling with small feathers during lowlight should help you catch a few football-sized blackfin tuna, and the smaller ones can be used to catch wahoo.  South Florida’s Palm Beach County is a slice of heaven where you can exercise outside, essentially, any time of year.  However, this time of year is almost too good to be true not to escape the gym and get outside. Nature is a perfect playground.

According to a study in the journal “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise”, people are as much as 40 percent more likely to exercise regularly in the summer than in the winter.  Most of the heart benefiting effort comes from leg muscles and glutes.  Imagine the challenge of running beach sand.  Sounds a bit tougher than the treadmill at the gym.

Don’t bother with old school sit-ups to work your core muscles.  Concentrate the exercise routine on stability.  Surfing, kayaking, kite surfing or standup…

Cinquez Park, located at 2183 West Indiantown Road in Jupiter, is a new dog park which has joined other dog friendly “off leash” fun spots in addition to the beach.  Under the direction of their owners, a dog park is a safe place for dogs to exercise and play off-leash in a secure environment.  Most canine parks characteristically offer a 6' fence, separate gated entries for large and small breeds, water, shade for hot days and benches for humans.  The dog park should have regular maintenance and sanitizing of the grounds.

Cities are opening dog parks because the demand continues to increase. The number of dog parks have increased 20% over the past five years. Wandering freely is positive for dogs. Studies show that leads can cause dogs to become…

Fireball Alert: No, not “that” Fireball!  Look up in the Jupiter evening sky tonight to hopefully, witness a celestial fireball. November is a busy month for the night sky.  A fireball is an alternative term for a very bright meteor, generally brighter than magnitude -4, which is about the same magnitude of the brightest planet, Venus, in the morning or evening sky.  Then there is a bolide. That is a distinct type of fireball which explodes in a bright flash when it reaches the atmosphere, usually with visible disintegration.

The Taurid meteor shower happens this week, and it can be “bold in its showmanship”. The Taurid meteor is known for cutting through dark night skies with brilliant, long-lasting fireballs. All Taurids are debris from the Comet…

LagoonFest spotlights one of the most scenic waterways in the Palm Beaches. With over 47  miles of unspoiled coastline to explore in Palm Beach County this is an entertaining way to learn why it is.  Slow things down on a kayak or stand-up paddleboard in the calm coastal inlets or in the intracoastal waterways. The Lake Worth Lagoon is Palm Beach County’s largest and one of the most beautiful estuaries.

Productive ecosystems, such as the Lake Worth Lagoon, are known as estuaries. These partially surrounded bodies of water are where fresh water and saltwater meet to form nutrient-rich marshes, mangroves and lagoons. Estuaries are indispensable environments for newborn species of fish, crustaceans and some birds.

The bite was scarce last weekend, but it seems to have been picking up this week due to the full moon. A few wahoo are starting to show up from the full moon and mild cold front, especially closer to the Bahamas. Around here, 150-400’ is where wahoo have hooked up along with blackfin tuna. Troll with small feathers during lowlight for tuna, and use the small ones to catch wahoo. Another option is to pick up a local favorite Junkanoo Lure and high speed troll in a zig-zag pattern. Sailfish are also coming out of the woodwork, and kite fishing with hearty live baits like goggle-eyes or blue runners is your best bet.

Kingfish and large mutton snapper have been eating sardines near 120 – 200’, and yellowtail snapper has been showing up in strong…
