Sunday night, January 20th, the moon will turn red over the United States during the last total lunar eclipse of the decade. A total lunar eclipse happens during a full moon when the moon completely passes through the Earth’s shadow. This causes the moon to turn a dark red or a rusty orange color.

The “Super Blood Wolf Moon” lunar eclipse will be visible across all of South America, North America and parts of Africa and Europe, this Sunday night into the early hours of Monday morning. This eclipse will be the first time since 2010, the entire United States will be able to see it.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse sits on top of a grassy mount overlooking Jupiter and the Inlet. The red lighthouse has been a part of Jupiter’s culture since it began construction in 1853. Today the lighthouse is open 7 days a week and hosts a series of events throughout the week.

Lighthouse Sunset Tour: Wednesday, January 16th, January 23rd, and January 30th
Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse and take in the wonderful views while watching the light turn on to brighten the sky. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is hosting a Fishing 101 For Kids next Saturday, January 19th from 10 am to 1 pm.

The new program is part of their new Family Adventure Day series and will feature family activities, sea- inspired educational events and adventures about Florida’s history. The day will include a meet and greet with important characters in Jupiter’s history, learning how to fish, story-telling, arts and crafts, live demonstrations, and much more.

Activities for the day start at 10 am to 12 pm, at noon you’ll be able to take a lunch break and enjoy your own picnic lunch. All are welcomed to attend this family day at the Lighthouse and grounds but children planning on climbing up to the top of the Lighthouse must be at least 48”…

January’s Schedule:

Early Explorers: Feathered Friends for children ages 3-4 years old: This Saturday, January 12th, the Palm Beach Zoo is hosting an early explorer workshop designed for preschool aged children. The workshop includes an interactive educational experience that features stories, games, crafts, visits to animal habitats, and up-close animal encounters throughout the Zoo or their nature area. This Saturday, January 12th come and support your local park and the education center for the Jonathan Dickinson Social Fundraiser.

The Elsa Kimbell Center located at the park sees thousands of students and visitors each year and now the center needs to be updated. The Center educates visitors on the unique history of the state park and its 15 diverse natural communities. The center is now in its 12th year and needs to be updated to keep up with the times and the educational programs.

Looking to get the kids outside and off the couch while they are off school for the holiday break? Well, the Jupiter Outdoor Center is here to help.

The dates for the 2018 Holiday Adventure Camp have been announced and spots are filling up fast. The camp will feature an array of outdoor activities, including kayaking, canoeing, biking, fishing, and environmental education. The camp is fully accredited through the American Camp Association.

Two different camps are being offered. One from December 26th through the 28th and again from December 31st through January 4th. On Thursday, January 10 the Jupiter Lighthouse will offer a guided tour of not just the lighthouse, but the waterway around the lighthouse as well. For $30for adults and $25 for children 6 years and older, you can climb to the top of the Jupiter Lighthouse followed by a guided tour through the surrounding water via either paddle board or kayak.
