The Palm Beach Gardens Recreation & Parks Division will make a splash Oct. 27 when it sponsors the fourth-annual Family Pumpkin Dive.

Those who want to take home a traditional orange gourd in time for Halloween are invited to come to the Aquatic Complex at 4404 Burns Road at 3 p.m. to dive in and claim a pumpkin. There will be 100 pumpkins available.

Participants are welcome to carve and decorate their jack o’lanterns-to-be before taking them home.

Cost is $5 for residents and $6 for nonresidents. For information, call 561-630-1100.

 Housing Prices Are Up 8%

South Florida home values were up nearly 8% in the third quarter of the year from the same time in 2011!  They are expected to outperform the national price hikes through 2013 according to the online real estate firm Zillow (www.zillow.com) . Three counties in Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade) are forecasted to experience a 3.8 percent rise in value over the next year compared to a national increase of 1.7 percent, as reported by Zillow on October 23, 2012.  

Zillow is a Seattle base real estate analysis firm which released its third quarter home value report which included South Florida.

Atlantic Arts Academy and the Atlantic Arts Theater in Jupiter is throwing a Grand Reopening Party on Oct. 19, and the public is invited to come out and see all of the changes the venue has experienced this summer.

The renovations to the lobby and the theater are impressive, said Jesse Furman, the theater’s creative director.

“We are very excited about the new programs that we are offering for children and adults that include fencing, photography, movie-making, magic classes, DJ classes, stand-up comedy, screenwriting, music production, film and TV production, as well as our regular classes that we offer in dance, theater and Music,” Furman said.

How would you react to winning a Mega Millions jackpot?  The gentleman who won the $120 million had been playing the same numbers since June of 2005.  The numbers consisted of birthdays and anniversaries, which he bought at a local 7-Eleven. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness and raise funds for research, prevention, diagnosis, and most importantly, a cure!   It is an excellent opportunity to remind everyone about early detection.

Eleven anglers from the Jupiter-based real-estate and brokerage firm will participate in the fourth-annual kingfish, dolphin and wahoo challenge benefiting Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope and Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper.

The fun and festive tournament at Castaways Marina gets under way Oct. 5 and features a mix of fishing, boat decorating, cocktail concocting and costume contests, as well as an awards party to raise money for local breast- and ovarian-cancer patients who are in financial need.
