Wellington is known as the Equestrian Winter Capital of the World and on Sunday’s, the International Polo Club hosts a Polo match now until April. Every Sunday socialites, local and international celebrities, friends and family gather at the Polo field to watch some of the world’s greatest horses and athletes compete in world class tournaments. 

Polo is horseback mounted team sport and is known as one of the world’s oldest team sports. The game is played by two opposing teams whose main goal is to score points by hitting a small ball using a long-handled mallet across the field through the opposites team’s goal.

If you have never been to a Polo match before, here is what to expect. The sport is originated between the rider and the horse and demonstrates extreme athletic ability, mental strength, physical toughness, teamwork, and game strategy. Instead of the typical halves or quarters, polo is played in segments or “chuckers” that are divided into seven and a half minutes each. A typical game of Polo is played in 6 or more segments in one match.

Polo is played at the International Polo Club in Wellington. The Polo Club Palm Beach is a premier Polo destination in the world. The Club hosts some of the largest field of high-goal teams and most prestigious tournaments in the United States. Going on right now at the club is the Polo season and the Winter Equestrian Festival.

For the Polo matches on Sunday, the doors open at 12 pm and the matches begin at 3 pm. The Polo Club has both stadium seats and box seats for the matches. The stadium seats are spread out throughout three sections and there is a limited amount of box seats. Click here for tickets and more information.

The club also offers Sunday Brunch tickets that offers special seating in The Pavilion with various food and dessert stations. The Pavilion holds 300 guests each Sunday and the brunch starts at 2 pm. Click here for special brunch tickets.
