Celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day weekend on Friday and Saturday rather on the day of the event is a great way to beat some of the crowds and chaos that are sure to delight many on Sunday, but which may not really be your thing. Even so the Block Party is sure to be a great time. It will include music, drink, and lots of people from all over the Palm Beaches out to celebrate and have a good time.

The Shamrock Fest will be happening again this year on Saturday at the Riverwalk Stage in Stuart. This event is great for Palm Beach residents of all ages, it will include food, drink, and lots of opportunities for family fun.

There will be an authentic Irish spread including Corned Beef and Cabbage, Shepherd’s pie, and corned beef on rye. There will also be Irish whiskey and cold green beer on tap.

Events will include a YMCA kid’s zone, Irish step dancers, Bagpipe players and, at 8pm, a costume contest.

While many people in the United States only think of December 26 as the day after Christmas, to some, especially people in Great Britain, its known as “Boxing Day.”

Boxing Day started in the UK about 800 years ago, during the Middle Ages. It was the day when the alms box, collection boxes for the poor often kept in churches, were traditionally opened so that the contents could be distributed to poor people. Some churches still open these boxes on Boxing Day.

It might have been the Romans that first brought this type of collecting box to the UK, but they used them to collect money for the betting games which they played during their winter celebrations!
