According to National Bridge Inventory statistics, the Town of Jupiter has 46 bridges!  Collectively the bridges average daily traffic of 1,137,448 vehicles and of that 94,108 of those vehicles are trucks.  That is an awful lot of traffic in our quaint little beach town.

One of the busiest bridges in the world is the George Washington Bridge, which links Manhattan to New Jersey by crossing over the Hudson River. The bridge has 14 lanes for motor vehicles and almost 102 million automobiles annually. The George Washington Bridge is 1,283 feet long of suspension and considered an engineering phenomenon. Jonathan Dickinson State Park was named for a Quaker merchant from Port Royal, Jamaica. Jonathan Dickinson was born in 1663.  Dickinson was shipwrecked on the southeast coast of Florida in 1696.  He was traveling with his family, his slaves, other passengers, and crewmembers of the ship. Hostile Native American Indians captured them on the Jupiter coastline.

In his journal, Dickinson recounted his family’s encounter with the Native Americans and their 230-mile journey to St. Augustine. The party was held captive by Jobe ("Hoe-bay") Indians. Dickinson and his family, which included his wife, Mary, their six-month-old son, Jonathan, and his ten slaves, took route on the ship Reformation. The Reformation unintentionally separated from the other ships…

 Dubois Pioneer Home

The DuBois House is an original turn of the century pioneer home. Built in 1898, it is the oldest house in Palm Beach County that is standing on its original site along the Jupiter Inlet. The homestead and land was purchased by Palm Beach County in 1971-1972.  The DuBois Pioneer Home Museum opened and 1985 the home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The DuBois Pioneer Home is one of the last remaining historic homesteads in the Jupiter area.  It is located along the beautiful Jupiter Inlet in Palm Beach County’s DuBois Park. It has been commonly referred to as “the house on the hill”. It is built atop of a Native American shell rock midden.  This distinctive homestead is rich in both historic and archeological value.

There are many delicious restaurants and cafes in South Florida which offer fresh seafood delights.  However, lobster rolls are a unique culinary skill. There are as many recipes for lobster rolls as there are chefs in Palm Beach County. There are tons of variations of the lobster roll - bun or no bun?  Serve hot or cold?

Three local Jupiter restaurants offer tasty variations of the New England lobster roll.

Cod and Capers Seafood Market and Restaurant, 1201 U.S. Highway One, North Palm Beach, has a recipe that calls for its lobster roll to be filled with freshly steamed, hand-picked Maine Lobster meat tossed in light lemon-mayo dressing and served in a New England split-top roll.

Perhaps in South Florida the weather is a bit cool, say 70 degrees, obviously much too cool on a winter day to hit the beach or the waterways.  It would be a great opportunity to try something a little different.   Pull the trigger and consider a shotgun sport at one of the many sporting clubs in the area.

The National Sporting Federation defines sporting clays as “a challenging clay target game designed to simulate a variety of field shooting situations. On sporting clays course shooters are presented with a wide variety of targets that duplicate the flight path of birds, such as flushing, crossing, incoming and other angling shots.”

South Florida Shooting Club is one of the best shooting clubs in South Florida.  Only a forty-five minute drive…
