The Jupiter area United States Coast Guard presents an “About Boating Safely” class on Sunday, April 23, 2016 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The boating safely course is sponsored by the AustinBlu Foundation.

The property located at 16133 Jupiter Farms Road in Jupiter has a lengthy past. The 150+-acre ranch is alleged to have been a hideout for crime boss Al Capone and his associates in the 1920’s. The notorious Chicago gangster built the original home in 1923.  Capone also took the name of Al Brown and lived in a tiny home in West Jupiter off Italian Farms Road (now Jupiter Farms Road).  West Jupiter and West Palatka were the moonshine capitals of the world when Capone was in Jupiter.  Capone preferred spending time in Miami, near the action and the beach.  The Chicago mob boss moved south to Miami in 1928 and acquired a beachfront home.  Capone died in South Florida in 1947.

You may be curious about the clearing that is happening at the southwest end of Donald Ross Road Bridge in Jupiter.  The 17-acre Palm Beach County maintained park is currently being cleared of predominately of Australian pines.   Excavation of Waterway Park includes over 30,000 cubic yards of waste material brought up during the course of an excavation or a dredging. The Jupiter High School Environmental Academy, the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, and others have planted over 35,000 red mangrove seedlings.

The red mangrove plantings will create over 11 acres of new mangroves, wetlands and “the creation of 1 acre of maritime hammocks at the southern terminus of the park's peninsula”.

The total expenditures for the project exceed $500,000.…
