Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, 2500 Jupiter Park Drive in Jupiter, received a $20,000 grant to fund environmental education. The grant, awarded by the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, is intended to fund virtual fields trips for children in schools across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.  This generous donation from the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation will impact up to 1,000 children in 40 classrooms.

The Mounts Botanical Gardens is hosting their annual Plant A Palooza plant sale this Saturday and Sunday. The event was supposed to be last weekend but was postponed due to the weather. Plant A Palooza will be the first event at the Gardens since the spring.

An estimated 40 vendors are expected to be onsite offering a wide range of plants, trees, shrubs, garden furniture and accessories, fine crafts, and much more spread out throughout the Garden. Calling all space fans, get excited because Mars is going to be close to Earth. Today, Tuesday, October 6th, Mars will come the closest to Earth and it will not happen again until 2035 according to NASA.

Known as the Mars Close Approach, the event happens every two years and follows Earth and Mars. Normally the distance between the two is 38.6 million miles. Today, the closest distance will be 33.9 million miles away from Earth. When Mars, Earth, and the sun become aligned, Mars will be visible for much of the night in the southern sky and will be at its highest point around midnight according to NASA.

Lion Country Safari located in western Palm Beach County is Florida’s only drive through and walk through safari as well as an amusement park in the entire state. The safari is located on more than 600 acres of land that over 1000 animals from all six continents throughout the safari’s seven different sections.

The safari was founded in 1967 and claims to be the first cage-less zoo in the United States. This summer, the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is hosting a virtual summer camp for kids interested in nature and science.

The summer camp consists of five sessions once a week and campers will get a chance to create activities through their interactive camp sessions. The campers must have access to a computer of mobile device and most of the activities will take place outside in your own backyard.

The sessions include topics such as conservation, cool science facts, and South Florida’s eco-system. Those who register for the virtual camp will receive a camp box filled with supplies for crafts, exploration, and activities.

The camp dates will be based on grade level each child will be entering in the fall.
