Dr. Alex Wasserman of Jupiter is hosting his second annual surf fishing series at Carlin Park starting this Sunday, July 12. There will also be classes held on July 19 and 26. In this 3-part class you will learn how to catch and identify fish caught in our local waters of south Florida. You will also learn tips and techniques derived from over 20 years of saltwater fishing experience.

You are not required to sign up for all three classes, however, each class will be unique and cover completely new information for each meeting, so it is recommended! All ages are welcome, but we please request parental supervision for children under 12 during the entire duration of the class.

In 1955, author Charles Martyn asked a local bridge keeper to describe the area that is now the Village of Tequesta. The keeper described it as “a jungle.” This intrigued Martyn who then decided to take the bridge keeper on his boat and have him show him the interesting area. After traveling along the Intracoastal, Martyn fell in love with the beauty of the area and its potential. He purchased 86 acres on Jupiter Island and developed upon it the Jupiter Inlet Colony.

While excavating, Martyn’s workers dug up a Native American mound full of artifacts. Martyn has the contents researched and it was discovered the mound belonged to an encampment of Tequesta Indians. The Tequesta Tribe lived in present-day Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties…

Good news for Florida theme park goers and Disney fans, Walt Disney World in Orlando is reopening this weekend to guests. The popular theme park shut its doors in March due to Covid-19. Disney Springs, the outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment area reopened to guest last month.

This Saturday, July 11th, Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom will reopen to guests at a limited capacity and social distancing guidelines to help protect guests and their Cast members. Disney’s Epcot and Hollywood Studios will reopen to guests on Wednesday, July 15th.  Earlier this week, Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom opened to Annual Passholders.

Gov. Ron DeSantis says he wants the state to expand its COVID-19 antibody testing capabilities and to commission a study on how widespread undocumented infections are.

Antibody testing, which indicates whether someone already fought off the virus, is available on-demand for medical professionals and first responders at several drive-thru facilities. But with a limited number of serological tests, members of the general public have only been tested through scientific studies.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted one study in South Florida and the University of Miami conducted a test in Miami-Dade County, both suggesting the virus was an order of magnitude more prevalent than diagnostic testing alone indicates.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said he has no plans to issue a statewide mask requirement at this time, but also won’t preempt local regulations. Here’s Florida Politics’ roundup of regulations in the Sunshine State.

While a mask requirement has been on the books some time, county officials announced it would be enforced with fines beginning on June 25, reports WCJB. Code enforcement plans to go to businesses with high levels of complaints and offer a warning and free mask, but then individuals who refuse to comply will be fined $125 on a first offense, $250 on a second, and $500 and a court appearance on third offense. The most recent order also includes requirements on signage in businesses where masks are mandatory.
