The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is preparing for a Double Sea Turtle Release this week. On Thursday, March 12th, the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center is planning on releasing two healthy sea turtle back into the ocean.

The sea turtles planning on being released are Turbo and Herme. Herme is a subadult loggerhead sea turtle that was found at the FPL St. Lucie site in November 2019. Herme was underweight and in poor health when found and after being transmitted to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center for fluids and antibiotics, Herme is ready to be released back into the ocean this week. Every Thursday morning at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center hosts their ArtSEA Kid’s Painting Class until the end of April.

The weekly art class begins at 10:30 am on Thursday mornings. The class is designed to help introduce basic sea turtle conservation and biology in young children. The art class is geared toward children ages 3 to 5 years old.

The class begins with a brief introduction and ocean-themed story that includes a hands-on activity after the painting class. Those who attend will have the opportunity to take home their painted sea turtles to remember to class by.

The 2020 Sea Turtle Nesting Season is set to begin March 1st and last until October 31st and the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is hoping for another record-breaking season. The beaches of Juno Beach will be monitored daily during this time and the Loggerhead Marinelife Center and Juno Beach support nearly 5 percent of the world’s loggerhead sea turtles.

Along the 9.5 miles of sandy shoreline, thousands of sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand. The nests usually contain about 100 eggs in each and requires 45 to 60 days to hatch roughly. The Palm Beach Zoo and Conversation Society is a non-profit zoo and is one of the top-rated zoological organizations in the state of Florida. The popular Palm Beach Zoo is located in Dreher Park in West Palm Beach.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is hosting their popular Jupiter Climb and Paddle event this week.

The event starts with a climb to the top of Jupiter’s iconic red Lighthouse and get your chance to see the incredible views of Jupiter and the waterways. The Lighthouse tower is 105 steps to the top and those who attend the event must be able to climb the tower’s steps.

Following the tour of the Lighthouse, the friends at the Jupiter Outdoor Center will guide the guests on paddleboards or kayaks through the waters of the Jupiter Inlet and nearby waterways for a tour and history from the water. Tomorrow night, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is hosting their reoccurring and popular Lighthouse Sunset Tour event. Climb to the top of the iconic Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and see the incredible sunset over the water and Jupiter.

During the tour, visitors will also get a look into the Lighthouse Watch room and watch the light turn on for the night and illuminate the sky. The tour last approximately 75 minutes long and the tours are weather permitting.

Children must be 48 inches tall to climb the lighthouse tower steps and must be accompanied by an adult 18 years old or older.

This Saturday, February 1st, celebrate Manatee Lagoon’s fourth anniversary at ManateeFest! Families are welcome to photo opportunities with Mia the Manatee, a Super Bowl themed FanZone, a Kids Fun Zone with ocean-inspired face painting, and marine life puzzles. Leaving the house without my dog is probably the most guilt-inducing part of my day. When she realizes I’m leaving, she flashes those sad puppy dog eyes hoping I change my mind.
