Lighthouses have guided mariners along Florida’s coast for centuries. Many do not know that Florida is home to 30 historic lighthouses, many of them are nearly a century old themselves with the oldest dating back to 1838. There were several others but over the years have fallen victim to erosion, fires, storms, and demolition.

The lighthouses range in height from 28 feet high to 175 feet high, almost half of the remaining historic lighthouses in Florida are over 100 feet tall. The Lighthouses are now operated by the Coast Guard but that wasn’t always the case. The federal Lighthouse Service and the Coast Guard merged in 1939 and today many of the Lighthouses have been preserved and are open to the public to tour and visit.

The World’s largest inflatable theme park is coming to Boca Raton this weekend. The large touring theme park, Big Bounce America, currently holds the official title in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest bounce house at 10,000 square feet.

The bouncy theme park features 50 unique obstacles, climbing towers, basketball hoops, slides, ball pits, competitive games, a DJ area, and a 60-foot maze designed for all ages in three areas. The areas include the World’s Largest Bounce House, The Giant which features the obstacles, and the Air Space which features the mazes and much more.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is hosting their reoccurring Lighthouse Moonrise Tour this Wednesday, March 20th at 6:45 pm.

Guests who attend the Moonrise Tour will learn about the history of the Jupiter Lighthouse while enjoying the views of Jupiter and the full moon in the sky. The tour lasts approximately 75 minutes and the tours are weather permitting. Be sure to check their website for more information for updates.

The tour costs $25 dollars per person and $20 dollars per person for Lighthouse Members. Tickets are required and can be purchased online. All are welcomed to attend, and children must be at least 48 inches tall to climb the 105 steps to the top of the tower.

Due to the popularity of the event, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center has announced three more dates for their Sea Turtle Sleepover for children in the next couple of months.

The Sea Turtle Sleepover is an exclusive event aimed for children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. During the sleepover the night time program will feature a tour of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s outdoor Sea Turtle hospital, children’s activities, scavenger hunt, chances to meet the sea turtle patients, an ocean themed movie and the ultimate slumber party. The Maltz Jupiter Theater next upcoming production to take the stage Tuesday, March 26th through Sunday, April 14th is West Side Story.

West Side Story is about a young couple Tony and Maria who find themselves caught between two street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. The pair find themselves caught up in a violent world and only to discover their love for each other. West Side Story was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Replicas of Christopher Columbus’ Ships the Pinta and the Nina are coming to Harbourside Place in Jupiter for a week. Starting Friday, March 29th through Sunday, April 7th the ships will be docked at Harbourside Place for tours.

The Nina replica was built by hand and is considered to be the most historically correct and accurate replica of Columbus’ ships. The length of the ship is 65 feet long and the beam is 18 feet wide. Columbus sailed the Nina across the Atlantic Ocean on three voyages to the New World in 1492. Today, the replica is a floating museum and visits ports all over the Western Hemisphere.

The Pinta replica was built in 2005 and was launched in Brazil and made to accompany Nina on off the voyages. The Pinta is a larger ship at 85 feet…
