The Rustic Inn Seafood Crabhouse restaurant on the Jupiter Inlet closed last Saturday night, May 20, 2017. Rustic Inn opened in January, 2015, in the previous location of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. on the Jupiter Inlet just south of U.S. 1, next door to Jetty’s restaurant.

Charles Modica, local Jupiter developer, bought the four-acre restaurant property last November for $8.3 million. The other two parcels owned by Modica, all are on the Jupiter Inlet. The other two projects are known as Love Street and Suni Sands.

The Jupiter no-wake zone extension passed but the next step is to request the Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners to support the plan. The most recent controversy is about a plan to extend the no-wake zone for boaters about one mile north of Cato’s Bridge, which goes from Tequesta to Jupiter Island. Boaters now can go up to 25 mph in the 125-foot-wide, 10-foot-deep. A no-wake zone would limit boaters to about 5 mph, increasing the one-mile trip to the north end of Coral Cove Park from two minutes to about six minutes. Saying fast-moving boaters are endangering swimmers, paddle boarders, snorkelers, the Jupiter council voted Tuesday night unanimously to support a plan to extend a no-wake zone.
