There is an ancient sport that is making a comeback in South Florida that is called Dragon Boat Racing. Imagine paddling with a lot of upper physical strength just after undergoing treatments and/ or overcoming breast cancer. In Palm Beach County, dragon boating is regaining popularity and is quickly becoming a movement that is impacting breast cancer survivor’s spirits!

If you never heard of dragon boating, it is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. It is a team paddling water sport that has its roots in a folk ritual of villagers originally from Southern China. For dragon boat races, the boats are generally assembled with decorative Chinese dragon heads and tails.

The first weekend in October, brought a bit of a cool front to our South Florida waters and while the Bluewater Babes Fish for a Cure tournament was scheduled many captains said, it couldn’t of been better conditions for a fishing tournament. The sun was blazing and cool breeze was at our backs!

The past weekend was amazing at the 2015 Bluewater Babes event that was at Sailfish Marina on Singer Island, Florida. Everyone who was able to participate in the community really worked hard and all the money raised goes to the local breast cancer research and its patients. Bluewater Babes continues to be overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for this tournament and with the added help, together we all made an even bigger difference.

Summer time in South Florida is completed and that means say farewell to the nearly flat days. This past week has brought a surprisingly long ride of export-quality surf, Florida flawlessness!

Beyond the warm peninsula, South Florida has cultivated a foaming surf community and some of the world’s best riders have learned to surf here. Jupiter, Florida surf rider, Jensen Callaway always gets pumped up to ride the fall and winter waves! Florida is open to all sorts of swell that is generated, but sometimes the waves are too close to shore for any longer lasting, super clean swelling events to occur. The Friends of Jupiter Beach organization “is a grassroots, volunteer-driven not-for-profit group dedicated to keeping a special section of Jupiter Beach clean & dog-friendly in northern Palm Beach County.” since 2006, the Friends of Jupiter Beach and all of their volunteers have cleaned up over 49,000 lbs. of trash off of our beaches!
