The PGA Tour's anual stop at Riviera Country Club has always been one of the better events on the West Coast Swing. In addition to the history and lure of the course itself, including the backdrop of the famed clubhouse on 18, it regularly attracts one of the better fields in golf.

The event, which has been held yearly at Riviera since 1973 got some extra fire power this week when the Tour announced that the Tiger Woods Foundation will become the new host of the event, bringing Tiger back to his roots. The Jupiter Island resident grew up in the Los Angeles area, and his foundation's headquarters are located in nearby Irvine, California.

Abacoa Golf Club recently completed $700,000 in improvements, just in time for the golf course's most popular time of the year.

Some of the updates and improvements included improving the driving range, refurbishing the restaurant, moving tee locations, increasing the length of the course, and modernizing the golf carts.

“Our golfers want to finish 18 holes in four hours. They have so many things to do. Their kids are playing sports. They want to go to the beach, out to dinner, meet with friends,” said co-owner Robbie Dew.

The course, which was built in 1999, is one of many public municipal golf courses in Palm Beach County. West Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, Lake Worth, and Palm Beach Gardens all have public municipal courses. Those courses…

On Wednesday, the PGA of America, which keeps its offices at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, announced that they have permanently cancelled the PGA Grand Slam of Golf effective immediately.

The four man, 36 hole exhibition began in 1979 and typically had that year's four major winners compete against each other in tropical environements. However, in recent years, with the way the schedules have changed and golf is played close to year round, the PGA of America had trouble filling the spots, with major champions choosing to bow out more times then not.

These days, a Tour Pro hitting a hole in one isn't much to write home about. When the hole in one is made with $1 million on the line though, it might be worth a mention.

Loxahatchee River resident Rickie Fowler joined several other PGA Tour pros on Monday at Old Palm Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens for the Els For Autism Foundation charity outing. The day featured a hole in one contest on Old Palm's famous par 3 19th hole. Anyone who made an ace on that hole would win $1 million for Ernie Els' charity. Fowler stepped up to the 111 yard hole and jarred one, causing the entire course to erupt. A video of the shot is below:
