Southern Living Magazine listed the top 10 Snorkeling Spots in the Sunshine State.  As it turns out, our area was prominent. Palm Beach County and Martin County ranked in five of the top ten spots. You do not have to venture far to discover snorkeling from the shore in Palm Beach County. Snorkeling is available within the lifeguard-protected swimming areas on several local beaches. Please join this month’s Friends of Jupiter Beach Cleanup on Saturday, March 5, 2022, beginning at 8:00 am – 10:00 am. The March beach cleanup is sponsored by Florida, Power, and Light. We clean a two and ½ mile stretch from the Juno Beach Pier to the southern edge of Carlin Park crossovers 22-59. Head on over to Jupiter beach this Saturday morning and join the Friends of Jupiter Beach as they help clean up the area coastline.  Friends of Jupiter Beach is a nonprofit 501(c)3 whose goal is to support and maintain environmentally health, clean and dog-friendly beaches in Jupiter.

Palm Beach County is an excellent area to live especially if you appreciate and love the outdoors. Most everyone is familiar with the miles and miles of beaches, waterways, and palm trees; however, some people are unaware that our area also has some beautiful state parks. Here are two favorite local state parks.

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach features snarls of mangrove marshlands and trails that meander through canopies of trees. People innately love being near the water. Just the act of looking at a body of water measurably lowers stress levels. Jupiter and several other beach towns in Palm Beach County and Martin County have made the list for the "50 Best Beach Towns To Live In" according to WalletHub. The survey and study compared and rated beach towns across the United States.

Every beach town has its pros and cons, and the ratings were based on six categories for the study. The categories were weather, safety, affordability, education, health, and quality of life. The towns and cities ranged in population and most cities and towns on the list are in the state of California or Florida. Palm Beach County and Martin County have a few beach towns that have made the list.

The State of Florida only has a few remaining Dog-Friendly Beaches in the entire state and the Town of Jupiter is proud to have one of them.  Jupiter Beach is doggone-friendly! In 1989, the town adopted the policy to allow dogs to play on the beach.  Since then, the stretch of sand where dogs are permitted has grown to 2.5 miles long. The Dog-Friendly Beach area stretches from Carlin Park at Beach Marker #57 to Marcinski Road at Beach Marker #25. In this designated area, dogs are allowed to play freely while being supervised by their owners.

Pet owners are requested to abide by the Town of Jupiter simple rule's simple rules to maintain the dog-friendly beach.

Yoga at sunrise is a wonderful way to bring out your inner Zen. It is almost impossible not to relax with soothing views of a Southeast Florida sunrise, yoga, and the sounds of the ocean. Sunrise Beach Yoga, in Delray Beach, was created to bring together a group of like-minded individuals who love yoga, the beach, and the sunrise.  Prior yoga experience is not required, and all levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. Sunrise yoga will be held every Sunday!

Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge Has Four continuous beachfront lots on Jupiter Island’s North Beach Road, in Hobe Sound.  They were donated by the Coast Guard, increasing the federally protected sea turtle nesting habitat. The beach is one of the most productive sea turtle nesting habitats in the U.S., the refuge's website says.

The 1,095-acre sanctuary’s natural habitat — sand pine scrub, mangrove forests, and miles of coastal dunes — supports about 40 plant and animal species listed as endangered, threatened, or of special concern.

To expand the refuge, the U.S. House passed the Jupiter Island Land Transfer Act, introduced by U.S. Rep. Brian Mast.

Young Friends of Jupiter Beach is back and actively serving the Jupiter community.  On the 3rd Sunday of the month, from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM, local are students gather at Ocean Cay Park for Students from local and neighboring high schools are invited to join the group for a beach cleanup. These students are earning volunteer hours for school as well as helping keep Jupiter beaches clean.

These budding, philanthropic environmentalists are becoming the next generation of emerging environmental stewards, preserving Jupiter’s beaches, habitat, and marine life for future generations.
