Sandra Angulo Minarro of Port St Lucie earned Co-Medalist Honors on Monday at Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach Monday to earn a spot at the U.S. Women's Open this summer.

Minarro, who is a native of Mexico but has called Port St Lucie home for the past three years, shot rounds of 70 and 67 on Quail Ridge's South Course to share Co-Medalist Honors with Amateur Mika Liu in the 36-hole qualifier. Minarro plays mostly out of the PGA Golf Club but will venture to Dye Preserve to work with renowned instructor Jeff Leishman. Leishman's list of pupils include PGA Tour pros Will McKenzie, reigning Rookie of the Year Daniel Berger and Steve Marino. Weeks ago, the town announced it would be closing the beloved and highly trafficked Burt Reynolds Park West in Jupiter to add some new improvements. The plan was to close the park fro June 1 to December 31. But after an outpouring of concern from local boaters and fishermen in regard to the success of their business and leisure surrounding the world of boating, the town delayed the improvements. 

There has not been a new release of when the park will be closed for construction yet, but fear not local boaters, it will not happen this summer.

For a limited time at the Loxahatchee River Center in Jupiter are several life-sized replicas of some of the native sharks that live in our Floridian waters. 

This special exhibit-taking place at the center features a life-sized replica of an 8-foot bull shark, a lemon shark and a nurse shark that you can get up close and personal with. Also, on display at the Loxahatchee River Center are a beautiful series of photos of sea turtles, sharks, dolphins and a variety of other native marine creatures. Each year, over 25,000 visitors make their way to the Loxahatchee River center to learn about our local ecosystems and their plants and animals.

A subject due to be voted on July 19th by the town council involves the plans for a $500,000 mini golf course. This lavish mini course would be 18 holes and would find a home in the Jupiter community of Abacoa located on the northeast corner of Main Street and Chancellor Drive. 

On May 10th the planning and zoning commission of the town council “unanimously recommended approval” of the course as stated by the Palm Beach Post. The mini golf course if approved would be open for business in about a year’s time. The currently vacant property in which this mini golf course would be located was purchases in 2015 for $5.1 million. This Thursday in West Palm Beach is the 5th Annual “Pairings” Event of West Palm Beach. The event is a popular culinary happening that focuses on bringing together the best food and wine in the county. 

Hosted by the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority, the West Palm Beach Pairings Event showcases 25 local restaurants and their artisanal creations. The event donates its proceeds to Families First of Palm Beach County, which is a non-profit, countywide service dedicated to the well being of children and families in the area. The program’s mission is to better families and their children through “high-quality programs in prevention, early intervention, child development, behavioral health, education and advocacy.”
