Originally built in 1926 by the architect Addison Mizner, the Addison of Boca Raton features old world elegance and charm.

It was initially created as the focal point of real estate operations for the Mizner Development Corporation and Mizner designed the Addison to serve as an example to prospective clients and to house the sales offices as well as a small apartment for himself. The property also included a restaurant that opened for lunch, afternoon tea, and an “al fresco” dinner.

The 1920’s estate offers many unique features, including historic architecture and a courtyard featuring 100 year old Banyan Trees and a beautiful fountain.

jupiter beach renourishment project

Beginning in early November, Palm Beach County began hauling 200,000 cubic yards of beach sand for a beach renourishment project south of the Jupiter Inlet at Carlin Park.  Approximately 120 truckloads of sand will be delivered from a mine in Port St. Lucie daily.  The trucks will travel via I-95 to Indiantown Road to a staging area at Carlin Park, 400 A1A, Jupiter, during off peak hours to avoid impacts on traffic and morning rush hour.

Palm Beach County Tourist Development Tax and the State of Florida fund the $5.5 million renourishment beach project.  The sand will be placed along 3,500 feet of beach front and 200,000 dune plants will be planted.  Work on the beach project will take place between sunrise…

Florida’s pioneers of surfing actually date back to the 1930’s with a few Virginia Beach lifeguards who rented concession stands at the beach and demonstrated the sport of surfing using Hawaiian surfboards.  A couple of native Florida guys were belly boarding in Miami Beach and a couple others scattered across the Southern part of the state.  After WWII, active military bases, with service members familiar with using boards for military purposes, settled down and became surfers.

Together, a group of awe-inspiring local kite surfers and an incredible photographer created, Kiting for Kids, an organization that originated in Jupiter, Florida as a way for the kite surfing and the beach community to pay it forward to children battling cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

Kiting for Kids began last year and had beaches join from Australia to the Bahamas, this year local businesses and families will collect toys and bring them to Kiting for Kids toy drive that will be held on December 6, 2014 at Jupiter Beach, Stairway 33. The toy collection will be from noon onward and famously “The Grinch” will be there to take pictures with the kids.

Veterans Day is a day Americans honor those who have served their country in the armed forces.   It is always celebrated on November 11 and it is not a day to be confused with Memorial Day.  Memorial Day is a day set aside for those who have died in service to their country.

Veterans Day is for all who served in the armed forces.  On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, in 1918, an armistice (agreement) was reached between Allied Nations and Germany.  World War I officially ended. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time with parades, speeches and brief suspension of business activities at 11:00 am.
