The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is dedicated to helping protect the ocean, marine life and injured and endangered sea turtles through their rehabilitation center and research programs. More recently the Loggerhead Marinelife Center has begun expansion on their new 27,000 square foot facility to help provide more research space and rehabilitate more sea turtles.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center has raised millions of dollars for their expansion through their Waves of Progress campaign which launched in 2017. With the expansion, the center is dedicated to providing more outreach programs and education for both the public and the researchers at the center.

Peanut Island is a favorite destination for boaters.  Even in the Fall, Peanut Island offers lots of fun with fishing, snorkeling, and camping opportunities within the beautiful clean waters that surround it.  Take a casual stroll on the paved pathways which wrap around the Island as well as the guarded and unguarded beaches for a day of fun in the sun.

Did you know that manatees are Florida’s marine mammal, and we proudly go to great lengths to protect them? Manatees are large, marine herbivoros known as sea cows.

The preservation of this endangered marine mammal is crucial, and it starts with community awareness. Throughout the colder months, manatees are drawn to warm-water outflows. They can’t survive in water that is less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Here in Palm Beach County, visit the Manatee Lagoon facility located at Florida Power and Light, 6000 North Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach. On the third Saturday of every month, a group of volunteers from Blue Friends gather together on the beach for a Saturday morning Beach Clean Up on Juno Beach. 

The Clean Up lasts approximately an hour long and all are welcomed to come and help keep our beaches clean. You are asked to bring a bucket and gloves to help collect the debris and trash left on the beach.

Following the Beach Clean Up will be a light breakfast sponsored by Whole Foods Market in Palm Beach Gardens and Another Broken Egg Café in Jupiter. There will also be complimentary coffee by Oceana Coffee.

Typically, every ten years the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse undergoes a fresh new coat of paint. The northern Palm Beach County landmark is set to undergo a fresh coat a red paint this October 21st through November 9th.

Crews will be working to paint the 108-foot lighthouse tower for two weeks. During this time, visitors will be unable to climb the 105 steps to the top to see the incredible views. The Lighthouse tower will also be making some necessary changes to their schedule of activities.

The lighthouse light will go dark during this time and will be wrapped to ensure to stay protected. During the repainting, the property’s Tindall Pioneer Homestead, the Keepers Workshop and the history museum will remain open. During this time, the admission prices will…

Luckily, we live in South Florida where the weather is gorgeous year-round for a barbeque. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is preparing for another Sea Turtle Release this week.

Howard, an adult male loggerhead sea turtle was found in March near Fort Pierce with an unintentional boat strike to its back flipper, tail and marginal carapace. When the turtle was brought to the center, the wounds appeared to be a few days old. During Howard’s stay, the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center monitored the sea turtle’s progress and gave him antibiotics and fluids.

According to the calendar, Howard’s injuries were completely healed and has been cleared to be released back into the ocean this week.
