Peanut Island is a favorite destination for boaters.  Even in the Fall, Peanut Island offers lots of fun with fishing, snorkeling, and camping opportunities within the beautiful clean waters that surround it.  Take a casual stroll on the paved pathways which wrap around the Island as well as the guarded and unguarded beaches for a day of fun in the sun.

The island was created in 1918 as a result of material excavated during the Inlet construction. Its name comes from a peanut oil production plant which its primary function was to serve as a shipping terminal.  It wasn't a success. In 1946, the government abandoned the plant retaining the name of the island. They then turned it into a "spoil site for the inlet maintenance and shipping channel". …

Living in Southeast Florida is a dream come true. A seemingly endless summer.  Live life like it’s one long weekend. Perhaps its to early to quit your job and run away from all responsibilities but you can get as close as it gets to the island life vibe here in the Palm Beaches.

We all have thought about it occasionally while sitting in a horrendous traffic jam, a boring meeting, or even as you’re shoveling snow out of the driveway, your thoughts turn to paradise. Walking along the beach, drinking frozen umbrella drinks from coconut shells, and never having cold feet again that a pair of socks and flips flops can’t warm up.  Oh, the smile on your face as drive to work along a beach road or winding intracoastal drive.

The fact of it is while some…

Did you know that manatees are Florida’s marine mammal, and we proudly go to great lengths to protect them? Manatees are large, marine herbivoros known as sea cows.

The preservation of this endangered marine mammal is crucial, and it starts with community awareness. Throughout the colder months, manatees are drawn to warm-water outflows. They can’t survive in water that is less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Here in Palm Beach County, visit the Manatee Lagoon facility located at Florida Power and Light, 6000 North Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach. This is an ecological-discovery center offering a live webcam and it’s one of the top places to watch manatees.

The manatee is described as a very slow-moving mammal. They swim a typical speed of about…

Luckily, we live in South Florida where the weather is gorgeous year-round for a barbeque. So, don’t put that grill away.  Barbecuing techniques include smoking, roasting, braising and grilling.  Seems to be the most common and is done over direct, dry heat, usually over a hot fire for a few minutes. Throughout the summer, barbeque picnics are plentiful and a wonderful thing to do with family and friends. Most BBQ’s offer the standard options of hot dogs and hamburgers on the beach, on the boat or near the pool.

Now that fall has arrived don’t shut down the outdoor kitchen, try something different on the BBQ.  Have you ever tried cauliflower steaks? Cauliflower steaks are delicious and so flavorful with an herb topped sauce.  It is good as an…
