This weekend, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is hosting a Back to School BioBlitz event. BioBlitz is a science effort to record as many species as possible within a designated location in a short period of time.

This Saturday, the Marinelife Center is hosting the event for everyone to enjoy. The morning will be filled with fun activities to identify local marine species for science. The family friendly event begins at 8 am to 11 am this Saturday, September 7th at Coral Cove Park in Tequesta.

Those who attend can choose between snorkeling, free dive, or some other method to observe Marinelife in shallow waters. In order to participate in the event, an underwater camera is required to capture pictures. If you choose not to swim, you can help clean up the…

Every month, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum hosts their popular Jupiter Climb and Paddle event a few times a month. This September, the first Climb and Paddle is this Tuesday, September 3rd.

The adventure starts are the Lighthouse with a climb to the top to see the views of Jupiter and the surrounding areas. To climb to the top of the Lighthouse Tower, you must be able to climb up 105 steps to the top.

Following the climb to the top, the Jupiter Outdoor Center guides will take you either by paddle boards or kayaks on a journey around the intracoastal waterways and the Jupiter Inlet. Along your journey, manatees, sea turtles, birds and other wildlife have been spotted during the Climb and Paddle events.

Next Saturday is the 6th Annual Chase N Tailz Fishing Tournament taking place at Harbourside Place in Jupiter.

The Fishing Tournament is for all ages and benefits a local children’s charity that funds families with very sick children.

The tournament starts at 6:30 am on Saturday, September 7th and those who wish to participate can go out of any inlet they choose, and launch form any boat ramp. Those who start before the 6:30 am start time will be disqualified from the tournament.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, the ultimate party boat goes on a relaxing Sunset Cruise along the intracoastal waterways of Jupiter.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center Officials have spotted a record number of sea turtle nest along Jupiter and Juno Beach this year and the count is expected to continue to grow.

As of the latest count in the beginning of August, there were a total of 19,580 sea turtle nests on the 9.5 miles of Palm Beach County beaches. In 2017, the record was 19,085 and this year we have broken that record. The sea turtle nesting season starts on March 1st through October 31st.

So far, there has been 186 leatherbacks, 13,111 loggerhead nests and 6,283 green sea turtle nests when the latest count was counted. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s Facebook page keeps the most accurate and updated count. The current nest totals add up to more than 1.3 million estimated sea…

This Saturday join a group of Blue Friends and Lynne Wells and head to Juno Beach for their monthly beach clean-up. The beach clean-ups occur on the third Saturday of every month.

The clean- up starts at 8:30 am and last approximately an hour long. Following the clean-up there will be a light breakfast sponsored by Another Broken Egg Café and Whole Foods Market. Complimentary coffee will be provided by Oceana Coffee.

If you plan on attending, you are asked to bring a bucket, gloves and closed toe shoes to help remove the litter and keep our beaches clean. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is hosting their Sunrise Nest Excavation this August. The Sunrise Nest Excavations started on Thursday, August 1st, where the Marinelife Center staff will give the public an insight into their Research Department.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center has gotten permission from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to allow the public into their department. The unique program is led by a permitted staff member who will lead the guests down to the Juno or Tequesta beaches to talk about the nesting and hatching process of sea turtles.
