Hurricane season has arrived once again and it's time to get prepared. With a "slightly above average" season forecasted by the National Weather Service for 2018, the state of Florida is providing an extended tax holiday June 1st-7th for preparations.

This week, you can purchase supplies such as generators, gas, batteries and tarps without paying state or local taxes. Luxury home price appreciation is the highest it's been in the past four years, according to market reports for the first quarter of 2018. Luxury market prices are growing at a faster rate than the rest of the market which means it's a good time to list your luxury home.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is hosting their popular Lighthouse Moonrise Tour on Tuesday May 29th. Guests who attend will learn about the history of the lighthouse and enjoy great views of the full moon from the top of the Lighthouse and of the Town of Jupiter.

The tour is approximately 75 minutes long and tickets are required to attend. The costs of the tickets are $20 dollars and $15 dollars for Lighthouse Members. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 561-747-8380 extension 101. Tomorrow, May 23rd the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is releasing Teddy the sea turtle back into the ocean. Tomorrow just also happens to be World Turtle Day.

The sea turtle is an sub-adult loggerhead turtle that was found injured in January near Hutchinson Island. Staffers from the Inwater Research Group found the turtle floating in the St. Lucie power plant canal and contacted the Marinelife Center. Teddy weighed 113 pounds, which is underweight for sub-adult turtles, when the center took the turtle in.

The hospital staff at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center administered antibiotics, vitamins, iron, and fluids after the turtle’s blood work showed poor health due to starvation and anemia. Today, Teddy now weighs 125 pounds and is healthy…

The 8th Annual Lionfish Roundup will be held next Saturday, June 2nd. 

The roundup begins on Friday, June 1st, with a divers meeting and kick-off party at 6 p.m. at the Jupiter Pointe Marina in Tequesta. The spearfishing competition for the Lionfish is on Saturday with a tally and awards party at 2 p.m. Divers spearing the most Lionfish, the smallest, and the largest will be awarded up to $5,000. It's a fun way to do some fishing and to protect our natural reef habitat. 

Lionfish are an invasive species in South Florida that destroy our coral reefs, consume native reef fish, and breed at an uncontrollable rate. The roundup was started eight years ago when the species started dominating the coastline.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a Florida State Park in Martin County settled between Tequesta and Hobe Sound. Located just five miles north of Jupiter, the park features a variety of natural habitats, mangroves, river swamps, and wildlife among its 16 natural communities. The Loxahatchee River, Florida’s first federally designated scenic and wild river, runs through the middle of the park.

The park got its name after a Quaker merchant named Jonathan Dickinson who was shipwrecked off the coast in 1696.
