This past Wednesday, the Palm Beach County public school system was awarded an “A” from the Florida Department of Education. The grade comes from factors including students’ high test scores on state exams and the county’s high rate of graduation. Palm Beach County students outperformed every other county on their required state exams and most schools in the area average a graduation rate of 90 percent with some charter schools even reaching 100 percent.

State records show that this year, 42 percent of public and charter schools in Florida earned an “A"- a 6 percent increase over last year. Of the seven largest school districts in the state, Palm Beach and Miami – Dade counties were the only two given an “A.” None of the 67 county school districts…

Next month a new mini golf course is set to open in downtown Abacoa in Jupiter. The 18-hole mini golf course is going to be called Golden Cub Mini Golf.

The course is designed by Nicklaus Design, a company founded and run by the retired professional golfer and Palm Beach County native Jack Nicklaus. The golf design company brought experts in to create a smaller version of a typical golf course. The mini golf course includes sloped grounds, landscaping and bunkers.

Scattered around throughout the course visitors will find giant yellow bears, which are inspired by Nicklaus’ nickname “the Golden Bear”. The golf course has partnered with Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and for each full round of golf, $ 1 dollar will be donated to the foundation.

This upcoming weekend the Turtleman Triathlon will be taking place along the beaches of Jupiter and Juno Beach. Participants will ride down A1A along the beach, swim in the warm Atlantic Ocean, and run through Carlin Park. The triathlon is this upcoming Saturday, June 30th with check in starting at 5:30 am.

The triathlon includes two races, the Super Sprint and the Sprint. The Super Sprint distance is perfect for first timers. The Super Sprint includes a 300-yard swim, 1.2-mile run, and a 5-mile bike ride. Check out the course maps for the run, bike ride, and swim for the Super Sprint.

Every Friday, Palm Beach Garden’s outdoor shopping and lifestyle center hosts its weekly outdoor Summer Concert Series.

The free concert series features a mixed musical lineup of local bands playing everything from rock, pop, country, and everything in between. The next outdoor concert is tonight from 7 pm to 10 pm in the center court. Tonight’s musical guest British Rock Invasion: Foreigner and Bad Co. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach hosts several Turtle Walk events throughout the year for visitors to learn and observe the egg laying and nesting process of sea turtles. During the event experienced Loggerhead Marinelife staff have set up a designated section of Juno Beach searching for sea turtles while the visitors get an informative presentation before they get to see for themselves.

Turtle Walks are $18 dollars per person and $15 dollars for Loggerhead Marinelife Center members. Walk in’s are welcome but a spot is not guaranteed. Brightline is a new intercity express train running from Miami to Orlando with stops in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. While the Orlando station is still being constructed, the train has opened its doors for South Florida commuters traveling between Miami and West Palm.  

For business or pleasure, Brightline makes taking a day trip to Miami easier and faster than driving on the highway. People leaving from West Palm Beach can expect to be in Fort Lauderdale in 30 minutes and Miami in an hour. Once the Orlando station opens it will take two hours to get there from West Palm, as the train travels at 125 mph.

Summer in Paradise, also known as S.I.P., is a set of events and free things to do this summer in West Palm Beach. The events range from fireworks to live music, outdoor movies, downtown shopping and dining deals and much more.

The premier event during the S.I.P. is the weekly Clematis by Night. Where concerts happen every Thursday night featuring performances by local bands playing everything from country, to reggae, pop, rock and more.
