This Saturday, May 19th, people all over the country will head to the coastlines to participate in the International Hands Across the Sand event. 

Hands Across the Sand was invented 8 years ago to encourage clean energy and clean water. It's a day of action uniting coastal residents, business owners and beachgoers against offshore drilling according to Diane Buhler, organization founder. Thanks to Florida's multi-billion dollar tourism industry that is dependent upon our white sand beaches, the state is exempt from any U.S. offshore drilling. Still, many people participate in the event to show solidarity for our marine environment.

The Friends of Jupiter Beach is hosting their 9th annual Food and Wine Festival this Saturday, May 19th at The Riverwalk Plaza in Jupiter.

The festival this year will feature more than 45 restaurants and vendors serving signature dishes, wine and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Many restaurants and vendors have signed up again this year in addition to new ones for this family friendly event. There will also be a live performance by the Samantha Russell Band. The Food and Wine Festival will go on as scheduled rain or shine from 2 pm to 5 pm under the Indiantown Bridge.

The Royal Palm Beach Seafood Festival is back and is going to the be held this Saturday, May 19th and Sunday, May 20th at the Royal Palm Beach Commons. The Commons is a 167-acre park with a large grass area and surrounded by water. The festival was formally held in downtown West Palm Beach for the last couple of years and this year the festival has relocated and added another day to the event.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is hosting their popular Hike Through History this Saturday May 5th.

The hike includes a 2-mile journey through the 120-acre Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Natural Conservation Area to discover the history and nature of the historic Jupiter site. The site is just one of three natural sites in the United States that is protected by the Bureau of Land Management’s National Conservation Lands Programs. The Coral Sky Amphitheater located at the South Florida Fair Grounds is an open-air music venue located in West Palm Beach. The amphitheater is used for concerts and shows featuring some of the biggest music stars and events.

The venue recently changed its name from the Perfect Vodka Amphitheater to the Coral Sky Amphitheater last year. United Technologies (UTC) opened a showcase center last Tuesday that has already brought 380 new jobs to Palm Beach Gardens. 

The new 224,000 square-foot, glass-enclosed building is a museum-like showcase center of the best new technology from around the world that is designed to reduce energy use in big buildings. This includes glass-encased, energy-efficient elevators and escalators, ductless air conditioning, apps for smart phones, and AutomatedLogic, an automation system that links together all building systems. The devices on display are designed to reduce energy use by 60%, water use by 36%, carbon dioxide by 60%, and outside water by 100%, according to UTC.

Within the next several months, CityPlace in West Palm Beach will undergo renovations to update the 18-year-old outdoor entertainment and shopping center. The Mediterranean style venue will begin its transformation to a more comfortable, flexible design with more plants and vegetation.

The plans which call for the city’s approval include plant filled trellises, walkways covered by large shade sails, a curb-less Rosemary Avenue to slow and narrow the traffic.
