This beautiful South Florida winter was a tad bit warmer than it usually is and motor boaters didn’t let the occasion drift on by. Not only because of the vast amount of sunshine, the great fishing, or the calming seas but because the gas prices are at a low! For boaters, the rate of engine friendly non-ethanol gas has reduced!

“According to Waterwayguide.com reports, prices for non-ethanol gas at Florida east coast marinas either stayed the same or dipped. The average drop was .35 cents per gallon from January 12-23 alone. The lowest price, $3.20 per gallon, was found at city-owned Hollywood Marina.” Boaters in South Florida are fond of those numbers! Windy conditions and rough cooler weather has kept many anglers at the docks this week, but those who made it off land have been seeing plenty of fish. On the east coast of South Florida, winds have shifted to the Northwest about 5 to 10 knots as the front strolled through. Seas are about 3-5 feet with an occasional 6 feet and Intracoastal waters are at a light chop.

HISTORY OF THE PLAYFUL PORPOISE in JUPITER / TEQUESTA

Cool breezes are in the forecast as the winter cold fronts decided to roll through South Florida and hopefully keep the fishing patterns more consistent and less scattered.

OFFSHORE- Update on the Silver Sailfish Derby that took place last week caught over a dozen sailfish in just two days and Yellowfin that was a 138 pounds! Their trick of hooking on to so many sailfish is that they chose to make longer runs up the line and look for the sails trolling with small naked ballyhoo and dredges. The teams with live bait stayed closer to home, spotting a few sailfish in 120’ – 160’ feet of water from the Jupiter Inlet to the Juno Beach Pier.
