People in the South Florida have always had a thing for health and wellness.  “Movember” is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's emotional health. The purpose of this annual event is to raise awareness around men’s health.

The term “Movember” is a hybrid of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, "mo", and "November".  For clarification purposes the “MovembeFoundation” focuses on men's health, and “NoShavember” is aimed at fighting cancer, regardless of sex. “Movember” is its own separate thing, with its own separate rules, and activism.

Today Palm Beach County wakes thankful, yet concerned. Thankful that we were spared the wrath of Hurricane Dorian, yet concerned for those who weren’t.

Palm Beachers know what it means to come together during times of crisis. Accordingly, many of us are already thinking of the Bahamas. If you are looking to help out, here is what you need to know:

The Better Business Bureau encourages donors to make sure that they are offering support — particularly monetary donations — to experienced disaster relief organizations and avoid newly created charity groups that seem inexperienced or have unclear agendas and mission statements. Donors can check the authenticity of relief organizations on the Better Business Bureau website as well as give.org.

The Trashy Tutu Paddle And Mangrove Cleanup is a fun way to help keep Jupiter’s pristine waters fresh and free of any trash. Bring your paddleboard, paddle and a trash bag to either Coral Cove Park or Jupiter Pointe Paddling and get ready to go out with a group of locals to pick up some trash in the most fun possible way. This is a great event for families with kids as it provides an opportunity to show young people that giving back can be an enjoyable experience.

There will be a few cans of “hidden water” floating around which, if you find, can be turned in for rewards at the end of the night. Following the event, everyone is invited to meet and mingle at the Blue Pointe Bar and Grill in Tequesta.

The Surfer’s for Autism Festival is a new charity event for special needs kids in Palm Beach County. Surfing is potentially a great activity for kids with Autism. It’s peaceful, athletic, and has a built in community of people that can help kids with Autism socialize. Obviously, though, there is a bit of a learning curve, and that is where events like this come in. It’s a good for step for those learning how to surf as well as an ideal way for more established surfers, kids with Autism, and parents of kids to meet.

If you are an adult with autism or a parent/guardian of a child with autism who would like to take part in the surfing instruction, please click here.
