The state of Florida is just one of 15 states to offer a Tax-Free Holiday on School supplies during the first few days of August. According to the Palm Beach County 2019 School Calendar the first day of school for students is Monday, August 12th and several retailers and online websites offer tax breaks on school supplies and clothing.

During the sales tax break period, Florida law states that there will be no sales tax or local option tax (also known as discretionary sales surtax) will be collected on certain purchases. These purchases include:

• Clothing, footwear, or certain accessories selling for $60 dollars or less per item.
• Certain school supplies selling for $15 dollars or less per item.

With two weeks off from school for the holidays many local museums, science centers and after care programs offer Holiday camps to keep the little ones occupied during their holiday break.

Here are some of the holiday camps happening around Palm Beach County this holiday season.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach offers a full marine-science experience where kids will learn about the journey of the sea turtles and ocean conservation through their programs. The camp runs from Wednesday, December 26th through Friday, December 28th and then again Wednesday, January 2nd through Friday, January 4th from 9 am to 4 pm. This year, some of the best high-academic baseball players in the country will flock to Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida to showcase their talent in front of more than 70 collegiate recruiters.

From Air Force to Yale, college coaches in attendance will be scouting for promising young baseball players at the only Headfirst Honor Roll Camp in the Southeast area of the United States.

The morning will include offensive and defensive showcases, batting practice, objective measurements, and three live games. The Headfirst Honor Roll team- all of which are either current or former high-academic athletes themselves- will offer insight, guidance, and advice.

Florida Atlantic University’s rock climbing center has opened an outdoor climbing center.  It is located at the north end of the campus in Boca Raton, 777 Glades Road.  It is open to the public Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. 

Rock climbing is an activity in which partakers climb up, down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of a natural or artificial formation. The idea is to reach this point of an outlined predetermine route without falling.

Halloween in Hobe Sound will require you running for your life (slightly exaggerated). Zombies have been spotted! Are you up to this years annual Halloween “You Can Run but Not Hide” Race at the Pine School’s campus?  This a great family friendly event, so bring the young and the young at heart.

Beware on October 19th, 2018, as the zombies will be running amongst us.  A zombie is a corpse that has been turned into a creature having a crusade but not a rational thought and very hungry. It's best to come out dressed in a Halloween costume or zombie outfit. To endure the race, you must traverse a 5K course with off-road and street terrain. The run is easy. It's avoiding the zombies that can get a bit thorny, specifically they're after your flags.
