Brooks Koepka, a Jupiter resident and Cardinal Newman High School graduate, won his second 2018 major title at the 100th PGA Championship on Sunday, totaling three major championships in his young career.

28-year-old Koepka, amongst Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Jordan Spieth, is the one of five golfers in history to win three or more majors before the age of 29.

Sealing the deal with pars on the 17th and 18th hole at Bellerive County Club, he finished with a 4-under-par 66 and set the 72-hole PGA Championship scoring record with a 264, trumping Jupiter Island’s Tiger Woods and crowd favorite Adam Scott.

The University of Florida, Florida State, and University of Miami all have powerhouse athletic programs any parent would be thrilled to send their aspiring football star to, but it's even more appealing that all of these schools have stellar academic standards and aren't too far from home in the Palm Beaches. For the next week, PGA Commons in Palm Beach Gardens is hosting an event called "Give Back, Get Back" where shoppers can donate school supplies for needing local children in exchange for 10 percent off at participating restaurants and shops.

This past Wednesday, the Palm Beach County public school system was awarded an “A” from the Florida Department of Education. The grade comes from factors including students’ high test scores on state exams and the county’s high rate of graduation. Palm Beach County students outperformed every other county on their required state exams and most schools in the area average a graduation rate of 90 percent with some charter schools even reaching 100 percent.

State records show that this year, 42 percent of public and charter schools in Florida earned an “A"- a 6 percent increase over last year.
