The iconic Henry M. Flagler Museum is one of the most well-known estates on Palm Beach Island.  The museum was once home to Henry M. Flagler and his wife Mary. Flagler was an American Industrialist and known as one of the island’s founders. The grand estate features more than 100,000 square feet of space that is filled with some of the most about history about the Gilded Age and Palm Beach.

June 8, 2021 is World Ocean Day. Fortunately, here in Palm Beach County there are several organizations that help by keeping the ocean free of garbage left on our beaches with beach cleanups.  This little piggy keeps the beaches clean.  The United Nations day, World Ocean Day, is for celebrating the role of the oceans in our everyday life and inspiring action to protect the ocean and sustainably use marine resources. 

Many countries have celebrated this special day since 1992, following the UN Conference on Environment and Development, held in Rio de Janeiro. In 2008, the UN General Assembly decided that, as of 2009, 8 June would be designated by the United Nations as “World Ocean Day”.

The city of Palm Beach Gardens is planning on building a new sports complex to be built at The Gardens North County District Park next year. In March, City Officials approved the plans to build a new 200,000 square foot facility that will include ice skating rinks, rock climbing walls, basketball courts, and other amenities.

Commissioners approved a lease agreement within the city and the non-profit Palm Beach North Athletic Foundation Inc., to build a two-story, 200,000 square foot facility on 17 acres of land within the North County District Park. The Park is home to 82 acres and the foundation plans to raise money to build the new approved facility. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center has recently added their popular Guided Turtle Walks back to their events calendar this June. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights join the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to visit with the sea turtles and get a chance to witness the sea turtle nesting process on the beach.

The Guided Turtle Walks is a unique program that allows guest to witness and observe the egg laying process of sea turtles and learn all about it. The walks require approval from the state and during the event an experienced member of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center staff search the beach for sea turtle while visitors learn about the process at the center. The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is beginning a new chapter. The sanctuary located in Jupiter has helped to save almost 6,000 injured, sick, or orphaned wildlife patients in 2020 and the sanctuary is about to embark on an even bigger journey.

The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary was founded in 1983 and has been responsible for recusing, rehabilitation, and releasing thousands of animals back into the wild since opening. The sanctuary also helps to provide vital environmental education through their events and classes for South Floridians and visitors each year.

Head to the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum on Monday nights for their popular and reoccurring Twilight Yoga at the Light. Enjoy the peace and serenity of yoga while enjoying the incredible sunset views over Jupiter.

The yoga class is completely outdoors and is taught by the wonderful Yoga instructor Mary Veal on the Lighthouse Deck. All levels of yoga are welcomed and encouraged to attend the event. The class costs $10 dollars and all of those who wish to participate are asked to bring their own yoga mat, and their own water bottle.

Summer is just around the corner and summer in South Florida brings warm temperatures and sunshine, but summer also brings the start of Hurricane Season. Hurricane Season begins in the Atlantic Ocean on June 1st and last until November 30th.  Luckily for us here in South Florida, we have managed to avoid hurricanes and tropical storms for the past several years, but its always smart to think ahead and start preparing.

The River Center in Jupiter is continuing to add events to their calendar this Spring and Summer. Join the River Center this weekend for their Bloomin’ in the Garden program designed for kids.

Bloomin’ in the Garden is an event for kids ages 3 years old to 6 years old includes story time around the River Center’s Fire Pit and an outdoor garden themed craft. The event will also include garden themed hands-on activities and those who attend will receive garden seeds to take home and begin planting their own garden.
