Another bumpy weekend ahead in the weather, as another cold front will be passing and sweeping South Florida with high winds. Good news for those anglers participating in The Sailfish Challenge taking place this Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The high winds should bring fire to the sailfish bite to South Florida!

Offshore- Sailfish bite should do well by the weekend, recent reports have announced the sailfish have been swimming around in pods and packs of about 4-5 sails. To highlight the attention, put out goggle eyes or blue runners that are hanging under a kite, putting out more bait gives you the best chances of catching several at a time. Local non-profit organization “Friends of Jupiter Beach” has been organizing beach cleanups on the first Saturday of every month for over 10 years.  Initially, the clean ups began with a handful of volunteers interested in keeping the beach clean of debris and waste.  Today, the “project has evolved into a significant force for environmental care of our environment.” 

Every month an average over 200 volunteers help, remove almost 500 pounds of debris within a 2 and ½-mile stretch of Jupiter beach and the Jupiter Inlet.  This environmental preservation project is partnered up with Rapid Removal Services to haul away recyclables.

The Sailfish Challenge has rapidly developed as one of the most widespread and perhaps the largest Sailfish tournaments in the nation. The Sailfish Challenge is returning for another competition starting on February 5-8, 2015 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

This beautiful South Florida winter was a tad bit warmer than it usually is and motor boaters didn’t let the occasion drift on by. Not only because of the vast amount of sunshine, the great fishing, or the calming seas but because the gas prices are at a low! For boaters, the rate of engine friendly non-ethanol gas has reduced!

“According to Waterwayguide.com reports, prices for non-ethanol gas at Florida east coast marinas either stayed the same or dipped. The average drop was .35 cents per gallon from January 12-23 alone. The lowest price, $3.20 per gallon, was found at city-owned Hollywood Marina.” Boaters in South Florida are fond of those numbers!
