Select parks and outdoor recreational facilities in West Palm Beach will reopen today, Tuesday, May 5th to the public with social distancing guidelines and CDC restrictions.  

Park Restrictions: 

  • Park hours limited to sunrise to sunset
  • Park is open for walking, biking, hiking, strolling, and running. Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, bike rentals, water skiing, wake boarding are also permitted as long as social distance is practiced.
  • All playgrounds, picnic areas, concession stands, camp grounds, dog parks, field sports, skate parks, organized sports, gymnasiums, aquatic splash zones, fitness areas, recreational buildings must remain closed. 
  • All Regional Parks, Community Parks, and Neighborhood Parks will open

Last week, Governor DeSantis and County Commissioners announced that parks and some recreational facilities in Palm Beach County were allowed to begin Phase One of Reopening Florida. The parks and recreational facilities are open with social distancing and restrictions. 

Parks Restrictions:

County Commissioners met last week to discuss reopening Martin County and the steps to take. The meeting was held Friday morning at The Blake Library in downtown Stuart.  

Starting today, Monday, May 4th, Martin County is reopening golf courses, boat ramps, parks and beaches, however Hobe Sound Beach will remain closed due to its close proximity to Palm Beach County where the beaches remain closed.  Bathtub Beach will also remain closed in Martin County. 

 In addition to all county parks, private and public golf courses and boat ramps opening racquet sports will be allowed at parks, pavilions will reopen but playgrounds will remain closed.  Boat ramps will be open for commercial or recreational use.

Good news for South Florida, Governor DeSantis announced today that State Parks across the State of Florida will reopen on Monday, May 4th.

DeSantis said” being outdoors in the open air is more low risk” from Talbot Island State Park in Jacksonville this morning.  In addition to the State Parks opening Monday, May 4th, some part of Florida can being the first Phase of reopening Florida.  Palm Beach County is not included in Phase One but State Parks in Palm Beach County are allowed to open Monday.

Earlier this week, Palm Beach County have opened golf courses, marinas, parks, and community pools with social distancing and restrictions.

Governor DeSantis and Palm Beach County Commissioners and Mayor announced some positive news about the slow down of Covid-19 in South Florida and the start of reopening Florida. 

Palm Beach County is taking gradual steps to start to reopen the county in a safe way. On Monday afternoon, the county commissioners announced that starting yesterday Wednesday, April 29th marinas, public parks, boat ramps, community pools, golf courses, tennis courts and other recreational facilities will begin to open with restrictions and maintaining social distancing practices. The beaches will still remain closed until further notice.

Located between Hobe Sound and Tequesta is the Jonathan Dickinson State Park. The State Park is home to 16 distinct natural communities that make up the park. 

The 10,500-acre park was named after Jonathan Dickinson, a Quaker merchant who became shipwrecked off the coast nearby in 1696.  The grounds in World War II were used as a secret training school and camp called Camp Murphy with over 6,600 men. Following the war the land became now known as Jonathan Dickinson State Park in 1950.

Head to Juno Beach this Saturday morning to help keep our beaches clean. March 1st was the first day of Sea Turtle Nesting Season and Juno Beach is one of the most populated sea turtle nesting spots in the world.

Along the nearly 10 miles of sandy beach, thousands of sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand. The nests usually contain roughly 100 eggs and require 45 to 60 days to hatch. Juno Beach is one of the most populated locations for sea turtle nesting. Loggerheads, Greens and Leatherbacks Sea Turtle nests are often found along the beach from March 1st through the end of October.

This Saturday, March 14th, a group from Blue Friends is hosting their monthly Beach Clean Up. The beach clean ups occur on the third Saturday of every month.

Downtown Abacoa transforms into the ultimate outdoor picnic on the second Friday of every month for the monthly Food Truck Invasion event. The Food Trucks will be lined up along Town Center Drive this Friday night.

The Food Trucks will feature a variety of different types of cuisines and dishes. The food from the trucks is prepared fresh and made to order and will feature everything from burgers, tacos, seafood, desserts, southern, Italian, Asian and much more.
