Southeast Florida is a great place to live especially if you enjoy the outdoors. Everyone knows about our miles and miles of beaches and palm trees, but some people are unaware that our area also has some beautiful state parks. Here are two of our favorite local state parks.

Jonathan Dickinson

Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound offers miles of coastal sandhills, upland lakes, and scrub forests, as well as the pristine Loxahatchee River, make this park a unique spot to explore by foot or water. Historical interests include a secret WWII training camp, story of the shipwrecked Quaker merchant who is the park’s namesake, and Trapper Nelson, the legendary Wild Man of the Loxahatchee.

As soon as October hits Palm Beach County, many of us focus on one thing and one thing only: Halloween. And while the month ends in the most frightfully fun way possible with costumes, candy and decorations galore, let's not forget that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Placing a pink pumpkin on your porch or doorstep may also give someone the push they need to schedule a mammogram.

Throughout the month of October, many local and national organizations host events and fundraisers to raise awareness and money for the cause, but some people also turn to a classic Halloween craft — painted pumpkins! — to show their support for family members, friends and neighbors affected by breast cancer in one way or another.

Jupiter is located in northern Palm Beach County and offers canine owners the added advantage of being able to bring their beloved dogs to the beach.  It is not just any section of the beach though.  The dog-friendly section stretches for 2 ½ miles along A1A.  Specifically, from crossover #25 on the south end to #59 on the north end.

Keep dogs on leash or under control and always supervised. It is a busy road, please leash your pet from the car to the beach, around small children, at the water fountains, showers and at the crossovers.  Jupiter residents and visitors are very fortunate to have a Town Council and Beach Committee that support the idea of dogs on the beach.

Please help preserve this privilege.  Use the free dog bags provided by…

In recent decades some restaurants have taken the locavore movement to the next level, not only sourcing the best ingredients for their kitchens, but growing vegetables and raising livestock themselves, too. That allows chefs to plant beautiful, delicious varieties that may not have the shelf life for a grocery store, as well as control everything from soil health to sustainable…
