Jack Nicklaus has certainly left his stamp on the game of golf over the years. One of the best golfers every to play professionally, the Lost Tree resident holds the record for most major wins in a career at 18. In addition to his many accolades and place in the World Golf Hall of Fame, Nicklaus has been very active in golf course design since retiring. On Friday, the PGA Tour announced that Tiger Woods won the PGA Tour Player of the Year award for the 2013 season. It was a record 11th POY trophy for the worlds number one golfer and Jupiter Island resident.

While Woods failed to win a major, he won five times in his 16 Tour starts. Woods won the Farmers Insurance Open, the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, and the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship making it the 10th time in his career that he had at least five wins in a season.

Florida Sportsman magazine will host its 21st annual Florida Sportsman Expo on October 12th through the 13th at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach.

The event will inlcude fishing seminars, a 100-foot indoor cast pond, kids' cast pond, rigging tables, fly and net casting lessons, and much more. Brian Peaper, Lost Tree Club's Director of Golf, has been named the 2013 South Florida PGA Golf Professional of the Year.

Peaper, whi played college golf at Ball State University and the University of Indiana, has been the Director of Golf at the North Palm Beach Club since 1996. While he competes in South Florida PGA senior events from time to time, Peaper has found more success off the links then on it.

“I went into the business side of golf out of college,” Peaper said, “but it was different then. There are weather issues in Indiana that don’t exist here, and youth sports meant the occasional YMCA team then. Travel teams didn’t exist.”

The Palm Beach County Golf Association’s season ending Tour Championship will take place November 16-17 at The Fox Club in Palm City.

Presented and sponsored by Jupiter Island resident Tiger Woods and his foundation, the event will feature top 30 players from the regular point standings from the 2013 season as well as the top 15 players from the senior point standings.

The Tour Championship field will be comprised following the completion of the Abacoa Golf Junior Senior event. Golfers must compete in at least three PBCGA events to be eligible for the Tour Championship.

The Tour Championship will help determine the winners of both the Bankrate Cup and the Braman Cup. The Bankrate Cup will be awarded to the end of the year…

The 2013-2014 Florida State Golf Association Winter Series will consist of seven events that runs from November through March. The series kicks off on November 25th with the Lake Mary Individual Winter Series Event and wraps up on March 4th with the Winter Garden Individual Winter Series Event.

West Palm Beach has been selected to host one of the Winter Series events when the West Palm Beach Individual Winter Series Event comes to Ironhorse Country Club.

Taking place December 9th and 10th, the event is open to male amateur golfers who are age 40 or older as of March, 2014 and are either a Regular or Foundation Member of the FSGA.

Cost of the event is $160 and entries close on November 27th.

Hugo Leon might have missed the cut at the PGA Tour Canada’s final event of the season but it proved not to matter when it came to achieving his ultimate goal.

That’s because, despite being sent home early from the TOUR Championship of Canada, the Tequesta resident finished the season fourth on the money list and will receive his Web.com Tour card for the 2014 season. The top five on the money list at the end of the Canadian season all earn Web.com Tour cards for next year.

43 golfers from around the state and country got one step closer to earning their PGA Tour cards when they advanced out of the PGA Tour’s qualifying school pre-qualifier at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach.

Rourke Van der Spuy of Columbus Georgia won the 54-hole event shooting a three round total of seven under par. He won by two shots over both Tyler McCumber of Ponte Vedra Beach and Evan Beirne of Jupiter. Both McCumber and Beirne shot in the 60s in their final round to finish the event at five under.

Other local golfers to advance included Ben Silverman and Jeff Ivall of Palm Beach Gardens, Scott Turner of Stuart, Josh Hart of Jupiter, and Tyler Kitson of West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach’s oldest, and most famous shopping and dining area has been named to the national top 20 Iconic Streets list according to 10best.com.

A division of USA Today, the site is hosting “a contest to name the American street that best combines history and a strong sense of place while reflecting its unique location in the country”.

Worth Avenue on Palm Beach was designed and built in the early 1920s by architect Addison Mizner. He built Worth Avenue shortly after designing several buildings on the street’s western end, including the Everglades Club. The Mediterranean-style buildings with small enclaves of restaurants and shops became known around the world as “the Palm Beach look”.

Tiger Woods won Player of the Month honors on the PGA Tour for the month of August headlined by a win and a second place finish.

The Jupiter Island resident continued his impressive run in the month of August, recording his fifth win of the season at the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational and finishing runner up at The Barclays, the first event in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. It is the 10th time in his career that Woods has at least five wins in a PGA Tour season.
